  1. Cloudy, misty day with no wind early and a bit of wind later. Took this pic of the mist on the mountain: Caught some fish on the Ned rig and some on a 3.3 swimbait. I caught 17 bass with 3 keepers, which is OK, but I felt I should've had a better day. I was around fish but had a tough time getting them to bite and to top it off lost several fish with a couple feeling like they were good fish. There were quite a few fish chasing shad on top, but they were scattered. If I was close enough to get to them before they moved away I could get them to bite the swimbait. Ned fish were on the rocky banks with a few on a rocky ledge coming off a point. The spots are eating good, getting real fat. WT 51
  2. Nice fish!
  3. I would definitely eat some.
  4. Rick was asking, so here it is. I won't bring any food, but I'll bring cups, plastic utensils, and plates. I am happy to bring cooking oil if there is a fish fry.
  5. I second that motion.
  6. I'm firmly in the match my line to the presentation camp. Lighter stuff, I tend to use lighter line for ease of casting and distance. I don't fish flies on gin clear streams however. When I used to fish back country lakes in Washington, some of those lakes the water was as clear as air, I'd throw spoons on 6 lb. mono. You couldn't see the fish, but as I retrieved the spoon one would come streaking from 50 feet away like an arrow shot out of a bow to get that spoon. Those fish were relatively unpressured and that may be a factor too.
  7. Was doing a little research on bass in Taney and came across this almost 20 year old thread. Might be an interesting option at Taneyfest to fish lower lake for bass and trout with jerkbaits. Hor far is it from Phil's place to the bass waters?
  8. Was out in Oklahoma a few weeks ago, trucks going the other way on HWY 60 hauling turbine blades, those blades are big.
  9. I hope everyone has a great Christmas! Temps around here are forecast to be in the 60's next weekend, so if you get some fishing gifts it will be a good time to get out and fish.
  10. Yeah I have no sympathy for the guy. I'd make a rug out of it myself. Or a hat like this dude. Imagine showing up at a PETA conference wearing this hat.
  11. Could be a mean, it has a faint lateral line.
  12. Did the hole jumper land the fish?
  13. A great day to be out, a bit brisk however. I caught a few of your fishes' brethren on Beaver lake.
  14. Got out for a few hours, didn't start until 1030 as I waited for the temp to get above freezing. Fished until 3 PM. It was slow, caught a half dozen smallies on the Ned rig and a 3.3 swimbait. Fish were deep, out in 15-25 FOW. No one out there on a beautiful but cold Saturday, only saw 2 other boats. Saw more eagles than boats, great time to get out for the eagle watchers. WT 53-54
  15. Sending out the bat signal for one of the species guys. ^^^
  16. Charged with a misdemeanor, $250 fine. Or the judge may laugh and dismiss the charge.
  17. Hopefully Eirc makes it to Taneyfest, and I get a chance to talk to him. Didn't see any pictues of arapaima, but that's another explosive top water fish. Watched a fishing show a few years ago where they went after arapaima, they really had to bushwhack to get back to where they were.
  18. That looks awesome!
  19. How was the food?
  20. These early morning trips on Ozark back roads are hazardous. Going to Cape Fair a couple of days ago on MO HWY 90 and around a curve comes a dually pickup over the center line. Had enough room to dodge him, thankfully.
  21. That's a cool trip. How long did it take to get there?
  22. Nope, but looked it up and looks to be a neat place to visit if I am ever up that way. I have been to the exhibit at Dinosaur National Monument, which is a place I recommend to anyone who is out that way. It's a neat place, interesting geology, great place to go hiking. Pulled this pic off the web:
  23. A historic (or perhaps more accurately, prehistoric) discovery was made just under the surface of a New York homeowners' lawn. A complete mastodon jaw was found in the backyard of a home in the Orange County town of Scotchtown, according to state officials. The jaw, along with additional bone fragments, was recovered by researchers from the New York State Museum and SUNY Orange, the state Education Department said in a press release Tuesday.
  24. Not a crank was thrown.
  25. That's some great fishing! I ate my first yellow bass this spring, was catching some white bass on Beaver and kept a few, then caught a 8 inch yeller and decided to give it a try. It was OK, about the same as the whites taste wise IMO. Interesting to see a white perch, used to catch them when I lived in Massachusetts. Didn't know they had made it out this way.
