  1. That's spooky. I lived in the Pac NW for 20 years, lots of cougars in the region, did a lot of hunting, fishing and hiking and never saw one.
  2. No kidding, I tip my hat to Gavin. Zero degrees right now, with a stiff breeze, took a quick walk with the dog - it's brutal.
  3. Sorry to hear about your trip there Flyman - I've fished with guides many times in Washington State for salmon and steelhead. It was always a bit of a gamble, especially for steelhead and I knew that going in. My expectations for a guide are that they be on time, have a clean boat, good tackle in good condition, be focused on getting me into fish, have local knowledge, and be reasonably personable and be willing to share info on technique and if I'm doing something wrong, step in and correct it. If the fishing is lousy, but if I felt the guide did all he could to get me into fish, well that's just fishing, some days it just doesn't work out. All you can do at this point is chalk it up to experience, learn what you can and move on. I'd also add that maybe next time if you decide to get a guide, ask on the forum for some of the guys to PM you with recommendations that have had experience with the guides in this area.
  4. Don't forget the most important species - LM bass!
  5. I'd like water high enough to flood the buck brush, but not high enough to get the flood gates open.
  6. Looks like the Bungles are done.
  7. Yeah I like what I've seen from Mauk. Brings to mind Doug Flutie. I'm hoping next year we see the Hogs start playing competitive football again.
  8. Yep I can vouch for television existing in those days as I watched it also. I was 10 at the time and we lived in Dayton Ohio. I was rooting for the Packers (I liked their uniforms) so I was happy with the outcome.
  9. Just saw an eagle fly by outside. There's a few that hang around the local lakes, but it's unusual to see one fly by the house.
  10. I like the optimism.
  11. I don't think abkeenam is even close to being 70's. But I hear you on the extremities.
  12. Nice, thanks for sharing!
  13. Yep a bug kill would be good.
  14. OK, now that I've put the Chiefs loss behind me, I'm looking forward to this game played on the frozen tundra. I'm puling for the Pack. Cincy vs SD game - I'll watch it, but don't care who wins.
  15. Snow has finally stopped coming down here, maybe 6" total - prediction was 1-2".
  16. When I lived in Washington state they would stock fingerling trout in some of the lakes. If left unmolested the trout could grow and reach keeper size. Unfortunately many of the lakes had bass that had been introduced by the bucket biologists. They'd dump the fingerlings in by a boat launch, there'd be thousands of them hanging around the launch. Go back a couple of days later, most of the fingerlings would be gone and there'd be a dozen fat bass finning in the shallows.
  17. I saw those HFC dads on the TW site. Interesting, I wish they ran a little deeper.
  18. Great job on the camouflage.
  19. I question the need to stock brook trout if in fact so few of them are caught by anglers.
  20. It's a cold, snowy morning out there. 3-4" maybe and still some light snow falling.
  21. Yeah I liked what I saw from Knile Davis. I'm thinking the Chiefs need a pass catching TE, help in the defensive secondary, and a new Defensive coordinator that can get the most out of the defence. The talent is there. And it's hard for me to put too much blame on the secondary when there's no pressure on Luck. I can't even recall him getting knocked down in the 2nd half. let alone sacked.
  22. Yep kudos to Bowe for a game well played. Even with the injuries, they scored 44 points. They should've won.
  23. That is one impressive looking eye. Congrats!
  24. I'm so ticked off right now - you have to play aggressive defence in the NFL, the defence played prevent D the entire 2nd half, and anyone remotely knowledgeable about football knows that is a recipe for disaster. No blitzes, 4 man-rush, Luck had all day to pick apart the defence. I don't blame the players, the blame falls on the defensive coaching staff (and Reid) for a complete lack of aggressiveness and imagination. It's really sad to see a team do so well all year and then get screwed by numbskull coaching. GGrrrrrr.....
  25. Just saw an episode of Hook-n-Look filmed on Bull last May. Showed some tube fishing for smallies, walking the dog for LM in the buck brush and a little flippin' in the buck brush. Interesting to see the underwater shots. If you did not see it, I'm sure they'll re-run it this weekend and in the future. On the Outdoor channel. Almost time for the Chiefs game to start!
