  1. Bear hair has a certain gloss in the water to it. Polar bear was especially good, then someone outlawed it. Nice work
  2. It is always possible to hurt more.
  3. That lettuce I planted in the raised bed last fall came up sometime. I saw it all greened up the other day, one of the rare times I have been home with it still light out. Still day break in morning when I leave, sun down when I get home.
  4. Yes it does. And it makes catfish taste better. Store bought salmon. But fresh stream salmon is hard to beat with just a little smoke from a cedar or birch plank over an open pit smokey flame. We took some fresh run silvers off the Portage River in Alaska, filleted them, and cooked them over the open pit fire and it was a taste that I have never been able to match.
  5. Jobsite yesterday was a little local hunting club and clay range. My job took me back to the bird pens and the dog kennels. Pheasants, chukkar, and quail. I may buy a pheasant hen to cook, I have not had that since I was a kid. We raised them on the farm as a kid and my uncles used to bring them back from South Dakota each year on hunts. I will not mess any meat with shot. Funny story from the caretaker, they rent dogs. Booked a hunt, asked customer if they needed dogs. "Nope, we have some". Are they any good? "No, but they can run around and scare birds up". Paid for 25 Pheasant, killed 9. Should have rented a dog..... Upland birds were never my thing, I became a rifleman and a pistol guy. Scatterguns were never my favorite. And my attitude with dogs, they really have to work, or they don't get to hunt with me. Kinda like people in my life. Smart ones get the pass. Dumb ones, well, its hard to find a use for them.
  6. The right BBQ sauce can make a turd taste good. But good BBQ does not need the sauce. Its the rub and the smoke that makes the taste.
  7. Did you get out and stomp its head? It's madness. Spring has dun sprung in Jan. Ducks flying back north according to the Ark. Game and Fish weekly waterfowl report. Robins dancing around my yard the past few weeks. Oriole at the feeder at the farm over the weekend. Fields are greening up.
  8. I like fat late winter ducks plucked and roasted. Gives them more moisture. I have skinned ducks whole, but the fat in the skin adds moisture. Early ducks get breasted. I skin turkeys, fry breast and make turkey salad of the rest.
  9. Farming is expensive and labor intensive. Most farms have to be subsidized by Government to be made profitable.
  10. Breast a duck or pluck, singe, leave it whole?

Nature will find a way around it like everything else.
  12. Did you get to shoot anyone??
  13. Gets you out of the house.
  14. Nothing beats a Bunn. Cranks it out fast and good. More than one sip at a time......
  15. Who is Lawrence Ghost?
  16. Any room in the fridge?
  17. That part fizzled, I had the cash registers and POS in 5 states at that time. Some of the old systems in grocery were made in the late 70's with file servers made of banks of rom chips. They survived. I did field one call that night, a closing manager at a Brew Pub in St. Charles needed a reboot. Pager and bag phone was still issued support equipment. Touchscreens were just coming online and very expensive.
  18. Open up the oven and cram some of that stuff into it, probably don't use it anymore with all of the gadgets.
  19. Tonight we ring in a new Decade, 2020. I was sitting here remembering clearly the events of New Years Eve 1999. I was in a buddies back yard in Florissant listening to the river boats on the Missouri River sounding their horns, gunshots and fireworks popping off everywhere while marinating in my alcoholic beverage. It was about the worst point in my life, freshly divorced, separated from my daughter. I was in the tech business then and carrying the pager waiting for the dreaded thing to go off if all of our software prep had been in vain. Fast forward 20 years. I met my wife about a month later on Yahoo Dating. She brought with her a daughter also a few years older than mine. Both have grown up and done well, married 2 fine men, and have 4 beautiful kids. Lots have happened for the better, many changes are behind us. Some of the ones at that party are gone now. Happy New Year!
  20. I fish for fun, so I will mash barbs down on jig hooks to release fish easier. No tools, just work finger along hook and push out. Never have much problem with tube jigs or Ned rigs going deep.

It really depends on what you are going to the Dr for. Would have to be a General Practitioner or Gastric guy. They would be the only ones worried about what goes in your guts. They really don't have to say anything about smoking, its pretty well common knowledge it is dangerous for your health. The warnings are all over the packages and millions spent in advertising the fact each year.
  22. Raining here last night, too wet to cook outside. Rubbed two pork tenderloins with McCormick Sweet and Smokey and let warm up to room temp. Popped them into the air fryer for twenty minutes at 400. Turned out fine, tender and juicy.

If you rented a certain room and had a silenced 22...... They were pretty beat up last time I saw them, several crippled geese in the bunch. Need to be put down anyway. They were fun to watch, but would not want to live there. Firecrackers would take care of most of them. The white ones would still stick around with the cripples. Rent a room and celebrate New Years Eve.
  24. I have caught nice chain pickerel there. January after they open it back up for fishing after duck season was a good time. They like to hang under the old lily pads. They have changed the lake over the years. They used to use herbicide to kill back the coontail and keep some of it open. Some water weed has invaded with small white flowers and burn your eyes if you transfer it from hands to eyes, we call it pepper grass. Boat lanes are usually choked out in the summer time now. Then water management has been poor due to the reconstruction. Most of the cypress has finally died and its a big open weed choked pool.
  25. The flounder was dipped in egg and rolled in cracker crumbs. It came out crisp and tasty. I did tilapia, just rolled it in cornmeal breading like I would to drop in fryer, the breading was still like dry cornmeal when done. Still wanting mushrooms and onion rings in it, they should do fine beer battered.
