  1. If I were a morel, I would be turtleheading right now. Warm rainy weekend and a bright sunny 71 this morn. Underbrush greening up. I could swear I saw a mayapple patch Fri.
  2. Take her to Barnes. Siteman is the best. Same thing I had on the tongue, they cut it out and all's well so far. I will pray for the same for her. Best of luck.
  3. I think all the spores took a boat ride around here today. Ground is saturated, but most went south.
  4. Buy a good drone to scout ahead for logpiles.
  5. Did it have the new style transducer or the old. I see they are clearing out the old ones cheaply.
  6. We still need some sun to warm the ground. Not much of that around here lately since the last cold spell. But things are greening up. Willows turning green, magnolias blooming, bradford pears forming blooms. Bees bringing in pollen from something. Lots of little purple ground cover and dandelions starting. Duck and geese heading north, see them every morning jumping off ponds on way to work.
  7. I was looking at the forecast this week too and thinking the same thing. A week of avg temp in 50's would be magic in April. Doubt if it will produce any, too early. What will probably happen is the warm spell will start the grass and by the time shrooms kick in, they will all be hidden.
  8. Fried okra should be green inside. Chicken nuggets should not be green inside.
  9. The whole lake is open for fishing. Snow goose does not affect the fishing. No hunters on lake or refuge boundries. As far as boats, you need to call their office and see what they have to offer. I think they still have paddle boats, but not sure. I don't really pay any attention to that part as I drive by. Most of the time I put in on the east side and don't even come close to the boat dock. Fishing should be ok. Bass and Pickerel should be biting. Probably crappie too. Too early for redear or bluegill.
  10. It looks so peaceful in the off season. Soon to change....
  11. I just assume he was a posting about the expansion of the almighty government. Not much to go by there.
  12. That shad kill happens every year. Something with the temps in the winter and low oxygen I assume. They put those in to feed the stripers. But they have to aerate the lake in the summer to keep things going. All of the dead timber and gunk coming in the upper end combined with the depth must be killing the oxygen levels in the lake.
  13. Makes a good anvil too. Farm auctions are a good place to look.
  14. Cutting Torch, Railroad Track??? I have seen sections of track that have been replaced laying alongside tracks in places from time to time. Maybe stop one of the RR repair guys and ask for a section.
  15. You can bring a bass boat if you want. Lots of stumps. Kayak or canoe is great unless wind kicks up. Open area that is pretty shallow. Catches alot of wind.
  16. Jonquils are blooming in TN. Water temp on Pickwick was 49 this weekend. Air temp was 70 when I left.
  17. Call Wilderness System and they will ship you some patch material. Looks like weedeater string and you put it on with a small torch or heat gun. Just like welding sort of. Look for a hairline crack under the seat on bottom. That is where my Pamlico cracked. I buddy did it rocking back and forth on a log.
  18. Not if you use the cheap Always Save stuff. Its tough as nails.
  19. Only a good fly fisher can chunk a piece of power bait and not have it fall off the hook....
  20. Powerbait and heavy split shot.
  21. Mark, they usually stock the same months that trout parks are open in Missouri streams. March thru Oct., once a month. Maybe extra stockings if they have a surplus of fish. Some streams will not get a stocking in July or August due to warm stream temps. 11 pt has gotten a special stocking in the past in Dec., but I don't know for sure if that still happens.
  22. It is shallow and warms up quicker than any other area lake. Can't help you with a spawn date, I don't fish it for crappie. But I catch some nice ones fishing for bass.
  23. Good at stabbing them. But they had poor eyesight. They had to wait to the pull out to id and cull them out.
  24. For several years, Super Bowl Sunday was a trip to 11pt fishing for trout. We would listen to the game on the way home and watch the finish. This year was the most boring game in a while. No big effort on either team to score, lousy half time, and a lackluster commercial performance. I think the Superbowl has jumped the Shark.
  25. I think they strain and chop the solids out before it gets to lagoons and outlet pipes. That part is probably still working.
