  1. Nothing in this should have anything to do with political parties, both sides have tried to ruin that river for lead mining, or other personal gain. Its the one wild river that has been returning to more of a natural state all of my life. A big State Park would bring more tourists to the area and ruin the best thing about it. Going there to get away from people. The upper river is a mess above Cane Bluff, those cows are nasty. And the creek running in below Cane Bluff from the north has issues on it too. But the part from there down 142 has been pretty protected from cattle farms. Some runoff comes in from Fredrick Creek, but not as bad as above. This is the part of the article that seems to be the basis of the decision "At trial in August, the state argued the planned park wasn’t in conflict with the easement and that the easement may be modified in the future to allow public use, according to the judgement. " . I am thinking there is a missing piece of the pie. What I see from this article, the State had a trial in August that opened the easement up in their favor. Other local landowners don't have this option and this part seems to support that theory "The state also said the McGibneys lacked standing, but the judge said they did have standing as members of the public challenging use of public funds, and that the McGibneys were subject to the same easement as the Department of Natural Resources. "
  2. Not sure what the McGibney's stake in the matter is, says the own property near it. Just reading the article, it looks like the State has plans of developing the easement area and feels like they have the power to over ride the Feds. They were probably just trying to block it. I am sure they have been blocked out of some of their land by the easement and are not able to develop any of it to make a private picnic area. The easement prevents any development outside of what NPS does. Any private structures along the easements have long returned to the earth slowly since it was created.
  3. Nixon developed Echo Bluff, a monster park full of concrete and steel in the middle of nowhere at great taxpayer expense. The State Park system at the time was cash strapped and did not have funding to keep up what they already have. Echo Bluff came online and all of the operating expense of it added to the burden. Then he bought this parcel and a few others using monies that were probably meant for something else. Not sure, but I think they sold one of the other parcels after he left office.
  4. Life has stabilized this year, sort of. Covid has been almost as bad as fighting cancer with all of the disruptions. Eyes and the rest of me are back to normal after the radiation. Tying is normal again. Fly fishing and Fly Tying took a back burner and now I am back to it. It struck me on Taneycomo, I have not held a fly rod all of 2020. And my fly bench was covered in dust. Been working on a few flies this week and looking for inspiration. Tyed a few from patterns that mentors from Reel for Recovery used that trip. Found a bunch of jig hooks and slotted beads that I purchased as a part of my minimum requirement for Orvis. Need some jig patterns for MO Trout, anyone have any patterns???
  5. Did you ever take a good look at their hands, usually nastier than a boat mechanic for sure. Never eat their cooking was always my rule.
  6. They are pretty dumb and have thin jawbones, slow reflexes. Just have to thump them hard, not much from the neck up, spine jarred loose from the saddle.
  7. Just need a bigger stick.
  8. In a way, they are like dogs. Most abuse horses from lack of care just like they treat dogs. A good horse is a product of its raising and reflects on its owner, just like a dog. But, as a son of a horse trader, we had several that were absolutely worthless because of the way they were treated. And it was hard to get them into shape after. Kinda like pound dogs.
  9. I know the McGibney's, fine folks. I have not seen them in a long time. I need to go by and thank them next time over for all of their good work. Fitting end to the Nixon Folly.
  10. Never had a use for them either. Rather pour gas and oil in what I ride than have to feed it hay, get it shots, and shoot it when it gets old. Probably gonna spend a nice weekend in the hay this weekend to feed the horses I don't own or ride....
  11. There was a pair on the creek at the farm Sunday evening as I left out. They were working something over on the gravel bar.
  12. Had to feed a goat when I was in High School, my chore. Hated that stinking sob. Never figured out why we had it. Got buzzed up one night late and tied him on a flatbed trailer headed out of town. Took the heat for leaving the gate open, but never had to feed the thing again. Had other goats on the farm, one billy cornered me in a stall one time and about broke my leg. I used to grab him by the horns on the other side of a board fence that had a hot wire running along it. Made him jump for joy when I touched his nose to the wire. But he was always dumb enough to come back for another jolt. They have evil eyes. But they are good BBQ'd in a pit.
  13. They have been working on Pine Cones here, I think the frost got the nuts. Every pine tree this morning had a pile of worked cones. Probably taste like turpentine.
  14. Is there much meat on a Puffer, normally just air?
  15. Moonshine Beach ramp was parked out to the road, that was where the tourney launched.
  16. Crappie are in the watershed naturally. Lowland river system. We caught one last week below Doniphan on the Current River. Things get slower and warmer below 160. How was the fishing?
  17. Phil, it seems like the ability to edit my posts are gone. Can't go back and correct spelling mistakes. Never mind, found the 3dots
  18. It's a Dahlberg diver design, should dive nose down each time it's stripped hard and wiggle some, then pop bach up.
  19. Waterproof Sharpies would work better. The design and the art looked good.
  20. Someone spent alot of time painting those up with markers. Good looking flies, and the fish seem to think so too. Buddy whacked a goose on the tail with a Heddon Torpedo on Duck Creek one time long ago. It stuck and the goose took flight. Bye Bye lure and a spool of line.
  21. The Park Guy point to the area across the dam and called it Rockaway Beach. What is the area on other side of dam from Table Rock State Park? There were trailers all the way out to the road there when we went to drop in a Cooper Creek. BTW, Fall Creek is about the end of full blast running in a jet boat. Idle speed only above there. Prop jobs clog up the channel.
  22. Thats the old Mainstream Patriot mould, pretty good hull. My duck hunting buddy has 2 of them that have been used for 18 years now and still floating. One took a dive off the truck when it flipped at high speed and still works.
  23. I bought a Stoeger 3500 20 last year. Pretty good all purpose light gun. Reasonable priced and inertia system. Stock shims and 3 chokes with a nice vent rib.
  24. My buddy caught the bass Sunday off a timber point near the camp. There was a tourney boat fishing in front of us as we rounded it. Big tourney out of Rockaway beach was what we were told. Just 3.5 lbs
