  1. One was laying on the dash where I was stationed. I had moved to the front of the boat to catch and release the small bass like I have done hundreds of times. From now on, it will be on my belt loop.
  2. All a part of being prepared for anything. Those dang hooks on the Flicker Shad are wicked. But they catch alot of fish. I have fished Shad Raps for years, but the Flicker Shad takes it up a notch. New rule, fish grabbers each time on the Flicker Shad. That crooked barb is tough to push thru.
  3. Got me again this weekend. Fishing below the dam at Pickwick. 12 inch spotted bass, reached for the lure to pull the hook out and flopped it into the finger. This time around, I had my Dr. buddies. They are not afraid to attack me with a knife. They took the fish off, then the lure off of the line. The fish had stuck the hook all the way out the other side but not past the barb. Tried pushing it on thru, but the goofy bend and tough skin made it tuff. Out came the scalpel, one Dr. made a small cut to relieve the barb. I pushed the hook on thru. My new side cutters in the bag was applied by my other Dr. Left hand went up to deflect the pointed shrapnel that was about to happen. Cut the barb off and I pulled hook out. Then pulled the pointed part out of my left hand like a splinter, it shot into it when he cut it with the pliers. Bandaid on and back to fishing the same lure. Caught a few more on it .later on.
  4. Wow. Dumbing down of America at its finest.
  5. Tossed back a 2lb 11 oz at Pickwick this weekend, buddy beat me about a hour later by 2 ozs. Slow weekend, dead summer heat. Usually we get over a 3 lb r each trip, 4 lbs is a target, and 6 is my trophy plan. But they eat like pigs on threadfin shads.
  6. Wally had it on clearance for $2. I had one with the kill clip, paracord, and a brass clip. I decided to upgrade to a nice red coily cord one for that price, but thanks for the offer. I got on to my buddy today for not wearing his in the Nitro. Told him to Google Hydraulic steering failures. Skated death twice with the cancer, trying to avoid Murphy now at every chance I can find.
  7. Murphy doing his job. I sit back in my neighborhood and watch him work with a nice cold beer. Too many people are crowding this world.
  8. Bought a new kill switch the other day because of you. No excuses for not fishing, try to find ones to go. Life is too short.
  9. They sure have done a number on water snakes. I did an 8 mile float on the Black River below the dam. Did not see a single snake all day. I have noticed the same on other rivers I have floated lately. I am sure frogs are in decline too.
  10. Unless you dive in head first.
  11. Surprised he has that big of an audience. But if he has killed 6, he may be his only reader.
  12. How many die reading Dabble Dribble articles?
  13. I always thought billet had something to do with steel and you were in iron works Billet head. Mine is pretty simple. I went to log on somewhere and my name was used. Like others, it always asked for location, so my first two initials and Midwest. Nothing magical, but have never run across a duplicate anywhere.
  14. Nature always finds a way. Man made manipulation always seems to cause problems in most cases.
  15. Thank God they take good care of them around your neck of the woods. Around here, one that big would have Heron scars or a Gig mark on it.
  16. I think I saw a glimmer of hope in the CWD problem. Someone figured out that feeding the deer un naturally at feeders was bringing them into a concentrated area. Then the disease is passed along. Feeding deer helps the weak bad genetics that would get weeded out by death or predators or passing disease along by keeping the sick ones alive longer. But, will they eliminate the deer feeder problem?
  17. He has probably seen bigger ones.
  18. Probably the best thing to do, they taste like trout when you fillet them.
  19. Dam uppity neighbors.
  20. Look how pretty our forest are now and they were all clear cut back in the last century. Timber is a agricultural crop that needs to be managed for what it is. You plant it, grow it, harvest it. Plant some more and make money off of it. Or let it go into shambles, die off, make a mess, and cause forest fires and pay for it with a loss. How many tax dollars does Morris generate off the sales tax on outdoor equipment he sells that goes to the MDC? Jobs he creates for the state? Promotion of outdoor sports that generates licenses that support conservation? Taxes he pays to the state? Then of course, his generous donations to the conservation efforts. His promotion of the outdoors and all that is in it. Dablemont is the relentless turd that refuses to flush. It keeps popping back up in the toilet each time you flush. He is a floater. I could call the MDC and report a hog problem. They would investigate and make sure what the best method of removal would be. Then they would come in and try to get as many as possible. Traps, helicopters, or any method they need. They are the trained experts. They seem to know what works.
  21. I am not thinking HOA means Home Owner Association. Curious to see what HOA really means.
  22. Looks like you need one. Don't see anything else in shop to work on.
  23. Kinda of. But they added all the bs for the tourists. And think about all of the landing craft that did not make it to the beach.
  24. No matter what you do, when death comes knocking, you have no choice. It was a freak windstorm, one made it, the other did not. I have been caught many times by a storm that pops up. And water seems to intensify them. Pray for the loss and don't point fingers. Learn and try to prevent next time. How many trips have they had without a problem? Compare that to the airline you fly next time.
  25. I think there was a blasting event that created the channel on the left in the first place. Diverted the traffic by the stripper pole. Stripper pole owner is sore that the channel is back in the middle. I remember the first time over the falls, we strapped down fishing gear and made the run. I was in front of the 17' aluminum canoe and the front sunk under the water then popped back up. I looked back over the shoulder and it seemed to be about a 45 degree incline. You could not see back upstream over the falls. Back then, not many on the stream on a given day. We started pulling out before the falls because the fishing dropped off and water slowed down. Too much paddling. Now days, we float Dam 3 to Riverside and make it last as long as we want. The river has many new houses and tenants along it now, but we have gotten to know many of them over the years. We still catch fish. And enjoy the river for what it is. On a weekday, its the same as it always was many years ago. I read a story about what really happened to the floaters. Seemed like one was sucked all the way thru the sinkhole. The one that did not make it got hit in the head by another kayak when he got sucked into it and did not make it. Tragic and sad story. I have seen Darwin try many, many times on that river to claim someone. But it seems like dumb luck may have gotten this one.
