  1. Sweet. I have never seen anyone work one, it looks like fun. I did read a Arkansas Game and Fish release a few years back that brought a chuckle. Falconry season opens next week. Hunting with Falcons is legal, hunting falcons is not allowed. Seems like there must be some confusion south of our border.
  2. Suckers must be thick there. I can't seem to catch any where I fish. I do manage a trout now and then, but never a sucker.
  3. Thanks to this thread I was keeping sharp yesterday. We ran boat to shore to take a leak. After that was done, 2 of the group decides to explore a hillside cut along the railway tracks along the river. I looked back over the shoulder and notice the wind had drifted the boat loose. I hopped onboard and anchored it again, the other 2 oblivious to what had just happened. I was also the only one wearing waders yesterday when we hit a shallow riffle and had to push the boat off. It would have been a cold day for one of us if I did not think ahead and wear waders.
  4. My wife will get dirt. Plain ole graveyard dirt.
  5. Obviously, there were no fisherman on this research expedition.
  6. My buddy is the kind of guy you like Wrench. He seems to jack his boats up every time we use them. I feel sorry and drag my along just to give his wallet a rest every now and then.
  7. I have never had an issue with the Kentuckies. We had a great day on the TN River out of Saltillo about a month ago catching them. They seem to get along with the other bass in that system.
  8. https://www.livescience.com/61206-ancient-fishhooks-found-in-burial.html Amazing, fish hooks found in an ancient grave of a woman in Indonesia. This is the earliest evidence of fish hooks in a grave burial found to date. They go on and on about it and they try to connect it to a woman of stature and its importance to history. I have a different theory. We may have found the first sport fisherman, her husband. He may have been in such a hurry to get her in the ground and buried so he could get back to fishing and dropped a few hooks doing it. Maybe she was royalty and worth alot. He inherited her wealth and had so much fishing gear he made her a necklace just to show her how much he loved her out of it......
  9. If mine was on a lift, it would get used weekly. Unfortunately, its an hour to ok fishing for me and 4-5 hours for good fishing. Mine sits and waits alot.
  10. For many years, I would enjoy them on the way to the duck blind. It seems like a hunt was always planned on the night they came in. I can remember a few mornings waiting for daylight to come and watching them. Not this year, not chasing birds for a change. Arm still works good for casting but still too weak for recoil.
  11. Most are quick and short, just flashes of light.
  12. You really need to open them up and break them in. Be a shame to find a defect in the back yard on Christmas morning. They do put out a dud from time to time.
  13. I just assumed that you knew for a fact that the carp were becoming a solution to the zebra mussel problem by first hand observation. That's why I asked.
  14. Fishing buddy texted from hot tub tonight, nice meteor shower going on. Moon is dim and sky is clear here. Look to the northeast and watch the show. Some directly overhead too. Should go on till dawn. Just came in from a 20 minute outing and saw about 15. Couple of bright long ones.
  15. So, did you kill the fish just to see what it had been eating? Looks like an awful rough cut for someone wanting to preserve meat for eating.
  16. I opened up the deer blind Sunday and there was an all black one on the floor. 25 that morning and 70 that afternoon. I think the poor thing knows more than I do here in MO, just accept the fact its going to be something. Something now, 2 hours later, something else. Then 10 minutes later, something totally different. At least he was smart enough to get inside the blind out of the wind.
  17. I personally charge the batteries after each trip then check before I head out. I never trickle charge, constant charging can wear a battery down faster and burn up electrolytes faster than letting it sit. If it sits for a while, I always go out every month and refresh. My main battery always seems to have ghost useage somewhere in the system as it drains 15% and the trolling battery stays full. Probably electronics on the motor? Most new chargers and onboards are computer controlled, they are supposed to shut off until the battery needs charged again. I assume it works that way. My portable charger shuts off at 100%. Many chargers don't have this feature. You have to check the specs on the one you have.
  18. Assuming its a new boat and motor, it should be able to handle ethanol gas without harm. Not as much fuel concerns as older motors and ethanol.
  19. Check and drain lower unit each season, refill with fresh lube. Monitor charge on batteries thru off season and charge if needed. Repack axles each season. Wash and wax boat to keep looking new. Keep rodents away from the boat.
  20. Melt one of them down and recast a whole bunch of .177 pellets. That is a chunk of lead going downrange each load. I just sent 20 sailing downrange that weigh 240 gr out of my 50 cal blackpowder this afternoon.
  21. Nice. I bought a new 1322 a few years back when they came out again, total dud. No power. My old 1377 from the 80's still had more punch than the new one. Wally world did a clearance back in the summer and I picked up a new 1377 for the grand kid for $25. Still in package till he gets big enough for it. Might have to look into hot rodding the 1322, it needs something.
  22. I fish TN and catch big smallies all of the time. Big water, good forage seem to be the key. Pressure is strong there also and they get fried often by others. But they survive, multiply, and grow to decent size. I am sure they could do the same here. They used to in several streams before somebody dumped trout in to compete with them and choke them out.
  23. I used to move Shelby Mustangs around my Great Uncle's used car lots in my teens in St. Louis. He would buy them from Hertz and resell them for around $1500 and make a tidy profit.
  24. What about Paul's Bait Shop on Chippawa? They used to do it many years ago. I stopped in a few years back and picked up some Shimano reel parts and noticed things had went down from last time in.
  25. Glad to hear that. 2 years of all clear and they consider mine gone, 14 months to go.
