  1. Good job.
  2. Pigmans used to own it and hosted the Beatles there for a layover. It's a State Park, not MDC. River Hills Traveller had an article on it, lawsuits were won by State, the Nixon folley will progress into another Eagle Bluff if I guess right. Ruin the whole wilderness.
  3. I did not "drift" my panfish 16 with 3 people in it across the shoals. I got it up on plane and skinny and I was down on lower end after all the springs and Frederick Creek dropped in. Like he said, it was tricky in a canoe up in trout waters.
  4. We were down on Sunday and Monday and stayed with Mike at Riverton. They did not stock trout since the July stock, so trout fishing was barren. We did bass above and below 142 at narrows and did well. Few smallies in 16" range. River was very low and jet boat was running skinny over riffles, no drift thrus. Weather was perfect and crowds were nil. Little cloudburst on Sat nite muddied up Frederick Creek and had water muddy below it on Sunday, cleared by Monday. I am guessing MDC failing to stock due to low water conditions. I don't think I would put a boat with a load of fish on and go with it.
  5. Box turtles were really moving the past weekend. Been a long time since a "spread head" has been seen on the farm. The hognose snake went extinct in my neck of the woods a long time ago. I did have a speckled kingsnake early in the spring. But have not seen any snakes for a while. But I have not been stirring up the habitat much lately, just keeping things mowed short.
  6. Looks like a good carp fly. Bluegill should be busting it.
  7. Personally, I have not run the Current much above Powder Mill. Two Rivers and above on either Jack's Fork or Current have been floating. I know boats go there, but you have to pick your runs carefully.

    Your Tuff

I can't use the word dehydrated this week. More like marinated, my clothes have been soaking wet. Even wearing light quick dry nylon the last few days, it has been pouring out of me. That humidity so thick you have to push your way thru it to get anywhere.
  9. Depends on if you have the hook eye buried in the plastic weight. Otherwise, not that big of deal if you can see well enough to tie a hook on. I have a buddy that can fool around 20 minutes tying anything on, even with readers. I have seen him give up fishing for the day if he breaks off.
  10. Bet that was a fun fight. Good job.
  11. I know that guy. Looks better from that angle. Funny place to pass out
  12. The Common Name is RedBellies.
  13. Maybe as a hunting device, but the air powered guns are not regulated as firearms. Only smokeless powder ones are considered as Firearms by the ATF. Even Black Powder ones can be purchased over the counter. As far as MDC is concerned, its 40 cal or larger for deer. And small game air rifles are regulated by species season. Local regulations regarding the discharge of something lethal vary. Air power guns may be overlooked. As long as they do not present a safety hazard. I have not researched OK laws.
  14. It was a freak flood, but a big one. https://www.kfvs12.com/2023/08/16/twin-bridges-campground-bollinger-co-devastated-by-flooding/ Of course, all of those campers are the reason I have not been on the water I loved all of my life until they invaded. Now, the camper trash will litter the stream. I yearn for the days when my only complaint was the giggers stabbing the bass.
  15. Poor little town of Glen Allen got whacked again today. Road culvert stopped up with drifts from the tornado debris and changed the channel of the little creek. It put water where water was not supposed to go. Tore up many of the newly rebuilt homes. https://www.kfvs12.com/2023/08/14/major-flooding-reported-bollinger-county-mo/ Freak storm this morning dumped alot of rain into the Castor River Drainage from the upper end, about 8 inches in a few hours. I was woke up by the Flash Flood Alarm on the phone, but not in any danger. I am guessing there are about a 1000 camper trailers flooded from Marquand to the lower end of the Castor River. It came up too fast for anyone to move them. It dumped alot of water into one of the 3 arms of the creek thru my farm. Caused a flood event that I have only seen 2 other times in 60 years. I would have hated to see it if the other 2 arms of the drainage had received the same amount of water. I lost about 20 yards of road bed going into my place. The State Highway on both sides of the farm has major damage and is technically closed to traffic.
  16. You may need to back it up with proof. I was wondering if anyone was going to test it during the covid pandemic. Being attacked by a coughing, spitting live virus carrier that was acting stupid in public. Remember those idiots that were going for "herd immunity"?
  17. Missouri is a "Stand your ground State". That covers you for anything, man or beast that is threatening your life.
  18. That would buy a lot of roundup.
  19. It's the world heading to the next great extinction. Nature runs awoke. Essentially man made critters in the wrong place and time. They lost their first battle with us, now it's their turn.
  20. PETA is dangerous when idiots take them seriously. They are a worthless organization. But, there are better materials than fur for clothing, most are made from environmental unfriendly plastic compounds. Fur has its uses, and in its day, superior. But in modern times, there are better solutions, synthetically. But we need to keep the little critters in check for fun if nothing else. I am all for killing things, the world is getting too crowded. Not enough Alpha Predators to keep them in check. I do my part when I can.
  21. Wrench never did tell us the difference, but that honey badger could make a damper on the feral otters.
  22. I cut gills at lower base on salmon, and they bleed. Trout, I rip gills as I gut while fresh and alive, just don't notice a real bleed. Maybe because the heart is going at same time. Invasive carp get the big cut and hang them off side of boat till I am satisfied they are done, then turtle food.
  23. How do you bleed your trout? I typically clean as soon as I catch and throw in cooler. Gut and gill, head and skin left on.
  24. I had a group surround me in the kayak while duck hunting flooded timber on Wappappello one fall. I was in 10' of water and they kept popping up all around me. If they had jumped in boat, I would have been in trouble. They probably weighed 30lbs each. One caught a big carp and dragged it on a floating log, the rest moved over to it.
