  1. Serious question, How many of you have actually found every secret spot you fish? How many of you especially when you were first learning your chosen fishing equipment choice? Did you ask for help or guidance from anyone. Did they help you? Food for thought. I'm not saying share on the open Internet. Just help someone that is in the same position you once were. I've been helped and I have helped and I have shared. I don't own public waters.
  2. That dog lays on the porch nekkid like you want to do right? does he lick himself? Are you going to do that also? I'm with JD more trees please 🤣.
  3. The one I posted does. It's not a Japanese bettle either. A type of junebug. I have seen them devour a peach tree. I'm talking the fruit. As kids we caught them and tied light sewing thread on a leg. Powerful flyers we would fly them around.
  4. Well done Travis, You have the pedal to the metal going full bore on the pursuit. Making your baits too. Just shows that the more you put into it the more you get out of it.
  5. You guys had one heck of a trip! Proud of both of your success and a bit jealous too. Really sorry I (we) couldn't make the trip with you guys. Won't let that happen again. I really think your success is kind of my success in a sense. Especially when Ham smashes fish on fly's I shared with him. Doing what he is doing with them makes me feel good!
  6. I'm wondering about the busyness now. Multiple people have told me about the masses now in the outdoors since during covid it was discovered by the ones that vacation other ways. Also, that valley corroder up and down from Salt Lake City is now one big, long town. So many people and they need to go somewhere during the hot months. What better place than the high Uintas. We have not traveled out west since well before the covid. We will be back at it next summer. Sounds like we will have to go farther down the road.
  7. Bummer about Wall lake. We never caught a brook trout there. Several cutthroat and several tigers. Interesting. The best and easy way to get to star lake was to go to the what I would call the north west corner of. The creek that runs out of the overflow star and into Washington. We camped on the most northern side of Washington. At North end of Washington following the bank to the creek inlet. Man I wish you could of found it. Sorry man 😟. Lots of healthy brookies in the creek to keep you busy on the way to the lake.
  8. NOOOOOOOOOOO , You and Peggy are targets. 🤪
  9. Well done young man! Fun place :).

    What's Cooking?

Been a good gandering season. Tub of plenty! Both of the two meals on this installment on what's cooking used stuff from the garden plus some fish from the last outing. First meal hybrid, fried green tomatoes and sauteed squash. Then stuffed cubanell peppers. Did a big pan full. Leftovers and they freeze well. In the side salad tomatoes and banana wax peppers from the garden. Finally I awoke our sourdough starter after about two years. Unbelievable. Third time after getting it started again. Done outside in the trager pellet grill. I have no idea what made me let it go idle. Good stuff Maynard.
  11. Atta boy! Pat has always told me I was good about telling my friends how to spend their money. 😁 It's refreshing to know someone that thinks the same.
  12. I am a fillet knife junkie. For the fixed blade just get one with good steel. As far as electric ones go I have a rapala lithium ion rechargeable. I love it. Inhearaded it when a fishing buddy passed. This being said there are some neat videos one YouTube that do side by side comparison tests. Very eye opening. I think you should watch a few of those.
  13. Sounds like a win,win situation 😄.
  14. Dan, This is your shindig. Pick the time that will suit you the best. Then see how the response goes. Dicker about better dates if it is alright by you. That way there is not a bunch of people throwing days they can go. Might help with getting bombarded and confused. Right now we or I am totally open unless a doctor appointment.
  15. I remembered that you like the shad fishing. Have you tried upstream from there? Does that lift system work well for those migratory fish?
  16. When you shop at temu for a fishing airboat.

    What's Cooking?

Braised deer shoulder, what can we do with it? Outside on the trager pellet grill. Shoulder coated with olive oil and salted. Then into the trager @ 400 to brown, Remove shoulder and add brasing liquid scraping up the brown bits, Back into trager @300 for a long braise until forking apart. Remove meat. Nice haul and retained brasing liquid. First meal shoulder meat, sauteed squash, and peppers, tomatoes from the garden. From Walmart added onions too. Skillet toasted Sourdough bread. Bye the way we got our starter revived after two years. Then no pictures but it did happen shredded shoulder and bean burrito with cheese mixed in, Third meal today was French dip/ Philly cheese shoulder sammich with some of the retained brasing liquid. More squash and old German tomato from the garden. Eating good in the Billet hood. Enough for more another day.
  20. They were the original fly/tenkara rods. Dipping rod too flexible stick with a horsehair line. Hazel shoots, willow, bamboo, and other flexible woods made for ideal rod building material. Use the heck out of them old boy. Cheap and efficient.
  21. If Pat and I go will bring you a kayak. Sit inside and very stable. No excuses that way. If you don't want a kayak I bet that there is a spare canoe out there.
  22. Well done you two. Adapting to what is presented to you.
