  1. Yes, for time spent you don't make a bunch of money. It is more than a paycheck for some as it was for me. It like fishing is a hobby except in this hobby you get a few bucks back. I made a grand one season while holding a full-time job. Up at 4:30 am to set and run traps. Drop off fur on way to work to be skinned after work. Repeat the next day. I was young then and would not attempt it now especially with fur market down.
  2. Thats neat for the Livie girl. Remember you posting that before.
  3. I don't have much and am not taking it with me.
  4. I hope you are able to do all you want. Squirrel season is closed though.
  5. Thanks, Captain Phil. I have done this with duck using the outdoor grill It is very tasty. I might add between the bacon and teriyaki soak this can be very salty. If extra salt is not in your diet, try to find low sodium teriyaki sauce.
  6. Any more porch upgrades in the future too?
  7. Hot dang Daryk! well done.
  8. I bought it in bulk when treating wild turkey feathers for fletching. Many, many moons ago so it was cheaper. A couple boxes worth. If I check my stash I may have some to share. It does go a long way.
  9. You are now famous! When does the royalties stare rolling in? . Hopefully you signed them all over to Amber! Thanks for posting, Glen.
  10. @ness and others, You know I have another story . There was a guy in Metz, MO. Cannot remember his name. We would call him a kid, but he was one of those kids stuck in a man's body. Wish I could remember his name. @Terrierman might know or remember him. Anyway, he had a mental issue but a good kid. He was fascinated with big trucks mainly 18 wheelers. He knew all the grain haulers in the area, and they knew him. Guy had a CB and an ATV. He would know where at harvest time many of the truckers were and watch in fields and grain elevators. When we were in town doing line work, he would find us and watch. Bring his latest metal truck or tractor to show us. His mother would thank us when he was not around for visiting with him. The guy knew to stay back when we were working. His mother would make the best homemade glazed donuts and cookies. We got them hot and right out of the oven. Either mom or he would bring them to us. Well, the guy would take the dirt roads over to 71 highway and set there for hours. Wave to the truckers and signal them to honk horns which they did as we did when seeing him. He just vanished and never heard anything of what might of happened. His mom was old and perhaps she passed, and he had to go to a home? Wish I knew, anyway knowing him was just another blessing I realize thinking about this topic. HEY GOOD BUDDY he would say loudly.

  14. Do truckers even still use CB radios? So, in the Winter of 1975 the family migrated to Missouri. My Dad was a CB nut and had one in all of our vehicles. We had us a little convoy on our way to Missouri. Dad drove the motorhome towing a jeep commando and My cousin was ten years older than I was (was a dick back then and still is now) following in an old Cadillac known as the tuna boat. So yes, we were in communication. I was the channel cat and Dad was and forever will be the "Chigger". I got so tired of listening to the constant chatter on the darned things I wanted to turn it off. Dad said no we needed to keep in touch just in case. Best part of the trip was messing with the dick of a cousin. The caddy had electric door locks. Cousin was afraid to touch anything of all the gadgets. Once and awhile, I would touch off the door lock. He did not know what it was and thought something might be wrong with the car. I did this a couple days. About the time we were crossing from Kansas into Missouri I gave the electric locks a constant work out. Dick cousin Thought the car was going to blow up. He got on the radio freaking out talking to my dad. I got to laughing so hard my side hurt! Score me a big victory against the Dick . So when I got me a ride, ford Fairlan. Of course Dad insisted and put in a CB, you know just for emergencies 🤣. The craze fizzled out and there is still a pile in his garage boosters and all. RIP Dad, I miss you bunches. Love you old man.

  16. Gary Brooker, the Procol Harum frontman whose soaring vocals on the band’s 1967 proto-prog rock classic ā€œA Whiter Shade of Paleā€ helped make the song a mainstay of 1970s FM radio, died February 19 of cancer. He was 76.

  20. A celebration! Yea Duane happy day to you
  21. Rich man's disease. Too much red meat is part of it! Purines are also found in certain foods, including red meat and organ meats, such as liver. Purine-rich seafood includes anchovies, sardines, mussels, scallops, trout and tuna. Alcoholic beverages, especially beer, and drinks sweetened with fruit sugar (fructose) promote higher levels of uric acid.
  22. I used to buy them for my horse at farm store. My guess and good idea!

Like you I use our gambrel just long enough to skin and quarter up. The quarters and backstraps get placed in game bags (flour sacks or pillowcases). Then placed in a spare fridge on racks to cool and age a few days until ready to break down. I don't like unregulated open-air temps with or without skin on in the Midwest. We can and do have temperature swings. If I am going to eat it then it will be taken care of to the best of my ability.

Will see what I can do. Sounds like a good challenge. with all the self-bows I used to make I learned how special that wood is. It is a beautiful yellow fresh made then kind of orange turning to a rich then dark brown almost dark chocolate to black. I would unstring my bow and hang in the sun to get it turning colors. Dang brings all kinds of various memories.
  25. It's been many years since I tried it. I'm going a small batch first. First batch will use yeast to get going. If I like it might do Bee bread for starter next time.
