Totally agree and that is what I found. I may add when I use charcoal to sear no sissy fire. A good bed of coals , same when you sear duck breasts over coals hot and quick @Lancer09, BilletHead

Fixed it for you. So you have read and followed our trips each Summer for the last few years? Go ahead and tell me how you really feel about what we do and the miles we drive for them there little trout . Oh BTW we do laundry in many of those states along the way. BilletHead -
Didn't you have the fire department show up once because you were cooking? 🔥 BilletHead

Only thing I could think of is too much at the searing stage Lancer. When i have goofed up that is where it is. Since I like a good sear I have adjusted my Sous Vide cooker a couple degrees lower that what is called for so I can sear longer. Never had any problem with duck but I sear them real quick because of the thinner meat cross section. Thin meat is hard to cook period IMO. Our resident chef RPS I am sure can help you. Used to cut my deer back straps in steaks or butterfly them. Learned my lesson there. Now it is Roasts in three sections. Sous Vide, sear and then cut into steak slices. Oh My Gosh what a difference. Now you have me wanting to cook one! BilletHead

All I have to say is we have fished every type of streambed and rock in the western states and the limestone rock here and the safest thing on the bottom of your boots is felt period. moss covered rock is still slick with felt but by far safer then so called cling on or sticky or vibram rubber, BilletHead

I'm with you mreed on paying my part and will do my best getting it down there or to Quillback. As far as frozen boat it was colder last year than it will be this time. Only problem I had was cables on the jet gate frozen. All it needed was a few minutes in the sun to warm up the cable and was good to go. Boat froze to trailer but again as soon as it hit the water instant thaw. I am going to miss all my friends and the new ones I would be meeting! BilletHead

We will be ready to hear the stories you will have for us JD. Thanks John, Nope just took them in this morning. From above they cannot see them even though geese are pretty smart picking up anomalies. No sun, no shadows from sides of the blinds. The birds that locked in did from a long ways off. Doing didoes flipping almost upside down in excitement. It was a hoot! BilletHead

Yep sometimes hard to get that perfect shot in areas where other hunters are close. I bet we have done the same to others when we get a shot. We have learned to hide in even short fescue and it can be done. Cover the layouts well. Push the blinds close together and fill in the gap between then mound on sides. Billethead

A quick update on some hunts, A hunt by the BilletHead solo at the duck park netted three. Quite a few birds that day but with many hunters that day when you got birds working others had birds working too. So first party to shoot flared birds off others. No complaints it is what it is on public ground, Another day Mrs. BilletHead and I were able to get back away from others on another duck park hunt. A very tight hole. Tight enough we used Improved cylinder chokes and #4s. We took out four mallards. Feet down hovering in our faces. Every hunt that is our goal to decoy the birds by letting them work so that was a success in our book, Then of course there were hunts where we did not pull a trigger. Last weekend hunted a small pond where geese had been crossing between to large ponds. Got two to look and set in. This netted us two canadas. Friday went with a friend again to the duck park. Birds wanted to land wide out of decoys. Seen many birds and all we got was two. Which brings us to today. Scouted yesterday and found more Canada geese. Quite a few as a matter of a fact. So a plan was made and we went out. No hurry up at five Am took our time with breakfast and loading up. Fescue field with a pond. Actually set up in the light. Put out a dozen floaters and six full bodies in a wad behind us. I like to hunt this pond but do not like to wade it. Cattle has the banks and mud worked up bad. You will sink up to your knees so I refuse to step out where I cannot touch the bank. Long lines on the floaters let me drop the weights in a foot of water but decoys will go out from the bank nicely. Add the 30 Mph gusts from out backsides the decoys moved great. To keep the bigfoots from toppling over pinned them to the ground. I bet we seen 200 plus canadas. Some high ones going to places they wanted to be, We decoyed two large groups and took out five. Then they quit flying. Should we have got one more bird? Yes for sure. We tried to shoot them in the face and after prepping for pulling skin to render for fat and filleting off meat it was evident only one took a hit to the body. Today was a great day. The best hunting buddy I could ask for with me BilletHead

Been there done that and had to hire a wrecker to get me, my truck and boat out of LOZ below Truman dam 36 years ago. Fool me once . Boat loaded couldn't move truck up ramp. Did not take much and we got out, BilletHead

454 round trip for the BilletHead, Will have to take the forecast day by day for deciding. That is a long way to slip and slide. 4WD or not towing a heavy boat can be dicey. BiletHead

Duck Bulgogi , Bulgogi is the national dish of Korea. This is an adaptation of an adaptation. Can be used with any skinless red meat. After marinating for an hour to twenty four hours it is ready for the grill. Rare to medium rare then tent and rest for five minutes, The marinade is reserved and heated for topping on the meat. Sides of rice and Kimchi , Really easy and there we will be doing this often. BilletHead

Great read and picture DJ my friend. I remember those days with my son and getting him a start. Now he is working with his children. The youngest granddaughter went with him last day weekend of firearms. They seen 17 deer and on the way in about got run over by some. They sat in a double tree stand. First one went by and he asked do you want me to get that one, yes she said and a slickhead went down. Emma was right in the middle of the field dress, skinning and quartering back at the house,. Pat cleaned and thick sliced the heart, a sear on each side Emma ate most of it and said yummmm i like this. Hopefully she will be ready to try herself next year, BilletHead -
Neat! I bet it was good times. BilletHead

A Good day for soup and grilled cheese, Mrs. BilletHead made a batch of vegetable soup. Kind of an oxymoron as there is ground meat in it. Grilled sharp cheddar cheese on the side. As I look outside it is 32 degrees and snowing. Ground is turning white and wind gusts up to 38 MPH. When I was squirrel hunting at 8:45 this morning it was 56 and little to no wind.

Truly good advice and even more scary is what we cannot see behind walls where critters like mice can do so much damage. I got to go with a guy with one of those thermal devices into some of the substations we had. Scanned the high side HV transmission sides of transformers mechanical connections, buss bars and low side connecters distribution sides. Capacitors and voltage regulators. Found many hotspots for maintenance. instead of a failure and fire having thousands of people out of power we could switch around and keep those meters turning . Glad you actually dodged a bullet on this one Phil. Could of been much , much worse, BilletHead
