    What's Cooking?

Since none of you yahoos don't pay attention to the cast iron thread I'm going to start putting stuff here. No Knead bread in a Griswold big block dutch oven #8 . Threw dry ingredients in a bowl and stirred it up. Then the water and a quick stir that was done covered with plastic wrap. 20 hours later floured up the work surface, dumped the dough on it. Made a ball. Covered again for an hour or two for another raise. Who knows how long we were morel hunting. Heated up the oven to 450 with the dutch oven lid and bottom inside. When hot put in the dough. Cooked 30 minutes lid on and 15 minutes with out lid to brown and crust up. Then out to cool. YEA! good stuff. I need to create a sourdough starter,

  11. So I head to an Amish store in the boonies looking for yeast. Get there and asked the young lady if they had any. Yes and she pointed me in the direction saying one package pre person. I thanked her and went to the shelf thinking just how far one little package is going to do much goid. As I found it I thought Holy crap! Score! 😂 A pound.

Wish I could get you a big jar of goose fat Randy to enjoy! Be safe man.
  13. The Mrs on her day off was out in flower bed enjoying the warm weather and day in shorts and flip flops. I said you are asking for trouble. A bit later I hear her squalling on the back deck. I NEED HELP. I look at the door and immediately know what's up and grab the tape. Look closely at this picture you all 🤣.
  14. Just trying to keep oneshot safe and not give him the best information in the shape he is in now. Cotton picking ticks sit there with legs out and anything within reach even with out CO2 as we walk by we are grabbed. FWIW Oneshot giving my two cents worth. Get yourself a designated pants and long sleeved shirt. Treat them with Permethrin spray as directed. Wear this set of clothes dinging around during outdoor activities. It flat works. Now to your footwear dilemma again FWIW my opinion. Lots off good suggestions. I too like muck boots but they are getting real expensive. I have totally destroyed a pair and now use another pair that is about ready to go south. I have discovered Dry shod. Suppose a muck knock off but less expensive at this point. I have a problem bending at times too. I can just step into the boot and it feels and fits good. Actually better than my muck boot. When taking off I step into a tray by back door. I have a long board. While standing up use the board to grab the tab on back of boot foot. Hold it down and step out. Much better than using other foot to do this. Less chance of loosing balance. Be safe Oneshot.
  15. The whole state of Montana A few notes about fly fishing in and around Yellowstone National Park. Thursday, March 26, 2020 From The Gov. Today I today issued a Directive requiring Montanans to stay home and temporarily closes all nonessential businesses and operations to stop the spread of COVID-19. The order goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. on March 28 and will buy us time for health care workers on the frontlines to limit long term impacts to the state’s economy. In consultation with public health experts, health care providers, and emergency management professionals, I have determined that to protect public health and human safety, it is essential, to the maximum extent possible, individuals stay at home or at their place of residence. There’s no doubt that COVID-19 is causing a lot of hardship. It’s also causing incredible hardships for our doctors, nurses and other hospital staff across the country. We need to give them a fighting chance to get ahead of this virus. The Directive will be in effect through Friday, April 10 and requires all businesses and operations in Montana, except for essential businesses and operations as defined in the Directive, to stop all activities within the state. Businesses with questions can contact a dedicated state line at 1-800-755-6672 and leave messages 24-hours a day and will receive a prompt response. The Directive also prohibits all public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring outside a household or place of residence. Essential services and businesses will remain operational and open. Businesses deemed essential are required to comply with social distancing guidelines when possible including maintaining six feet of distance, having sanitizing products available, and designating hours of operation specifically for vulnerable populations. Under the Directive, Montanans may leave their homes for essential activities, including: For health and safety. To engage in activities or perform tasks essential to their health and safety, or to the health and safety of their family or household members (including, but not limited to, pets), such as seeking emergency services, obtaining medical supplies or medication, or visiting a health care professional. For necessary supplies and services. To obtain necessary services or supplies for themselves and their family or household members, or to deliver those services or supplies to others, such as groceries and food, household consumer products, supplies they need to work from home, and products necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences. For outdoor activity. To engage in outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with social distancing, such as walking, hiking, running, or biking. Individuals may go to public parks and open outdoor recreation areas, including public lands in Montana provided they remain open to recreation. Montanans are discouraged from outdoor recreation activities that pose enhanced risks of injury or could otherwise stress the ability of local first responders to address the COVID-19 emergency (e.g., backcountry skiing in a manner inconsistent with avalanche recommendations or in closed terrain). For certain types of work. To perform work providing essential products and services at Essential Businesses or Operations or to otherwise carry out activities specifically permitted in this Directive, including Minimum Basic Operations. To take care of others. To care for a family member, friend, or pet in another household, and to transport family members, friends, or pets as allowed by this Directive. You can read my full Directive HERE. My Directive follows federal guidance to determine the businesses and operations deemed essential, which are summarized in the Directive and can also be found here: https://www.cisa.gov/publication/guidance-essential-critical-infrastructure-workforce. For the most up to date information on COVID-19 please go to: https://covid19.mt.gov/ As Montanans, we have an obligation to slow the spread of this virus. Our fellow Montanans are counting on all of us to follow these stay at home measures and save lives. Thank you again for your comments to my office and for sharing this information with others in your community. We must take COVID-19 seriously, and we must take the measures now to flatten the curve and give our front-line healthcare workers the ability to fight this disease. Working together, we can save the lives of our fellow Montanans and our economy from long-term impacts. Sincerely, STEVE BULLOCK Governor Governor Bullock 8:53 PM

Oh my gosh! I just found out everything I have learned was wrong, 😲
  19. I about lost in in Wal mart this morning, Got there just after eight. The Mrs. and I. Didn't even go to the old folks hour at 6 am. So there is a rather large lady in a Wal Mart scooter up by the self check out. Two mega packs of TP in her basket. Lady there said mam did you see the sign? One package per customer. She replied oh my husband is coming up front and one is his. Ok then. So we are in there for milk and maybe flour and yeast. So we work our way to the back to get milk figuring that no tp on the shelves. We get to that isle and low and behold that rather large lady made it back there and I have no idea how and pitches out one of the tp mega packs back out of her basket. Husband is back there with more in his cart. I figure par for the course in our little town. Plenty on the shelf actually so we grab a pack and head for the milk. Then we go to the isle with baking goods. Guess what that rather large lady in the scooter is there her poor husband in tow. His head is hanging pretty low. We walk to the flower and yeast area. Oh no here she comes. Singles us out. What are you looking for? We were hoping to find some flour and yeast. She gets rather loud. Them #$%^& ^#*(@ Amish came in and took everything they could find. Didn't leave nothing for the rest of us. I grab a small bag of flour and begin to turn around. Again in a loud voice. Those $%$^@@#& ^&*(!@# Kansans are worse than the Amish. They are over here buying our stuff. WE should close that border! It was all I could do to keep my big mouth shut. Bit my tongue and left with her still spouting off. Note Store is pretty well stocked with most items. Even canned goods.
  20. Youngsters, I'm from the Virgil ward and Harold Ensley days. Ran into Harold one day below Truman dam. He was catching crappie for fielting at walmart while promoting his fillet knife and of course he had his strong heart dog food too. Well while fishing he had one Heck of a birds nest in his fishing line. He said sonny would you help me I can't see so well anymore. I got it unsnarled and he thanked me and shook my hand. I will remember that forever.

Another couple pieces restored, Got this monster of a Dutch oven gifted to me last summer. Finally got around to putting in in the e-tank and stripped it clean. Began the seasoning process and this is how it came out. It is a pre 60's lodge size 12. I will find something to cook in it eventually. Guess I will wait until this virus ends so I can gather an army. Now to the second find. I did not have a big block slant logo Griswold. I wanted one and finally got it. Size #8 . Was pretty carboned up heavy. Super slick bottom, nice and light in the hand. Circa 1906 - 1912 . Last thing. Found some skillet racks online. Pretty neat Use horizontal or vertical. Horizontal can use the top for a fifth skillet.
