  1. I used snaps and they worked last fall and it made it very easy to change the weights.
  2. It was a good story anyway. you know that come closing time a lot of things look different then they are.............
  3. The 6 hp limit is only for us. I don't know who you bribe to use bigger engines..........
  4. 2' in Republic and the Hostas are covered. The best day of fishing I ever had was 20+ years ago, Cedar Lake in NW Ontario the Friday after Labor Day, Snow thunderstorm wind out the south every North side rocky bank was loaded with Smallmouth, Walleye and Northern in as little as 3 feet of water would not leave yellow jigs alone until Lightning hit the trees in front of us and chased us off the water and back to the USA. I laugh about it now but it wasn't funny at the time.
  5. We have been grilling panfish for a long time now. Bluegill, crappie, whites, yellow perch etc used Jim Houston's Kraft Italian dressing with Teriyaky sauce as a marinade.
  6. Me to Wayne except I kept the feathers and fur in an Umco largest tackle box without the possum belly and the hooks and whatever in a smaller box. I keep planning to start again but I think some of the stuff is no longer legal and I don't know if fur that old would be usable. I may not have the best flies bu I still have a lot of 40 year old flies.
  7. I was confused. We ate whitefish in NW Ontario at camp fish fries and they were really good so I looked up whitefish and I guess there are at least two different kinds , lake whitefish which are served in restaurants in Canada and the upper Midwest and mountain whitefish.
  8. I started around 1970 fishing strip mines near Millstadt IL One day bank fishing for big bluegill in a very small pit I ran into a guy with a fly rod who was catching bedding blue gill and wasn't stopping to put on a cricket every time he got a bite. After talking to him for about an hour while fishing I was sold. The next week I had a cheap fly rod with a level line and a Eagle Claw small reel. I still use that old reel today with my 30 year old 6' 6" St Croix 5/6 wt Birch Bark glass rod for bedding bluegill. Unlike a lot of people I like to fish a wet Tom Nixon black gnat plain for bedding bluegill. However once we moved from St Louis I no longer nave access to ponds with 10 to 12 inch bluegill except for Fellows Lake and I just sold my boat and am in the process of buying a jon boat to fish Lake Springfield. I'm planning on fishing that lake and the river most of the time, if I can't find big bluegill I'll spend time with my fly rod up the river .................
  9. I honestly believe Bluegill are the reason God made the fly rod
  10. 4/26/2013 The day country music died.
  11. My Moms uncle Charley who raised her after she was orphaned as a small child and was the same as a grandfather to me and my brother and sister in the late 40's and early 50's used to take me to the Mississippi in north St Louis where the barges loaded and unloaded the grain elevators. Some of the corn or whatever would end up in the river there and draw fish I seemed to be skilled at catching eels not catfish and they were slimey and being a pre teen I would often end up with some pretty nasty clothes by the time I got home and Mom would give me and Uncle Charley the business when we got home. But, she never told me I couldn't go the next time he took me. I find it interesting that the water must have been less polluted then if the eels survived along with the channel catfish we caught there.
  12. I don't understand why the walleye fishing is not emphasized more once I moved to central Arkansas and started catching better walleye in Lake Catherine by accident than I caught in NW Ontario I quit wasting time and money making that 1400 mile drive and since moving here and finding out the walleye fishing here is about as good as in Arkansas, I have to wonder why it is not promoted more. You can't catch the Northern Pike here like you can up north but I think we catch bigger Smallmouth than we caught up north and I think if either state promoted the walleye fishing maybe some of those guys sitting in there cars for hours in International Falls waiting to cross the border might take a look at this area as a closer less costly fishing vacation. I know I have.

  16. You almost nailed it Jack, I would add after you have talked, ask him if he would like to here you sing a Porter Wagner hits medley............or if you can yodel an Elton Britt medley. Long time ago I fished with a guy who claimed he never had problems with people crowding him. When they got near them he would start singing about the Carol County Accident.......

  18. The article in the newspaper said the changes were to help the cooks. When I showed it to my wife she said a few things about housewives knowing what a pork chop is and what a pork steak is and other things concerning the food industry that I'm not allowed to print here and how we need to clean the gene pool................I'm just glad they are leaving Bratwurst and Italian sausage and Kielbasa alone.
