fishinwrench Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Nice Ron. I like it ! What is that head made from ?
Trout Commander Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Nice Ron. I like it ! What is that head made from ? I would throw that (somethingg similar, so as not to infringe) at smalles, Ron! I'd catch some too. Just sayin'. My apologies on the LMB-lake/SMB-river confusion though. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. Gavin Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Needs some rubber for slower water, IMO....but rip that across some chop and you will catch.
awhuber Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 The head is made from a popper cork mounted backward and the front sanded in that shape to make it not only dive, but wobble when it does. It really worked great on lakes, but was far from the best thing for smallmouth on rivers. It doesn't work well in currents, although it does work as well as other poppers and topwater flies on long, quiet pools, where everyone fishes for the same hassled smalmouth in larger rivers. Even though I've caught some big smallmouth with it in lakes, I don't consider it a good fly/lure for smallmouth bass. The best one pictured here came from Dale Hollow. I made and marketed them for about 10 years, but the bulk postal rates and and price of cork imported from Portugal put me out of business. I'm not interested in reviving it or even protecting the patent any more, so have at it. I'll send details about how to make them yourself to anyone interested. It's more like model building than fly tying and takes about a week to do it right. And I don't post what I do on this site to get guide clients. I don't need it, and I certainly don't need it badly enough to take people with bad attitudes just to make a little money. I'm selective about who I fish with, and if you already know everything, you don't need a guide anyway. Hey Ron You are not listed as a permitted outfitter on the ONSR. Is that an oversite on their part or yours?

ColdWaterFshr Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Ozark National Scenic Riverway Bit harsh, AW, don't you think? A no-nuthin guide taking a few anglers around the Current or Jacks Fork without a danged permit? This should be a felony! ; ) Much, much bigger fish to fry with the gobdammed horses tearing up the trails and crappin in the rivers, and the ATV's, etc, etc.
