jdmidwest Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Gotta be a mountain lion too! I have a friend that raises elk, maybe I can borrow one to tie out for bait. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Members salmotrutta Posted March 3, 2013 Members Posted March 3, 2013 I like the Musky lure idea...that would be epic.
Jerry Rapp Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I would never do it now salmo. Back in the day maybe. Those opening day guys are hard core fisherman. It is what they live for. I did one once, and did a couple of the first weekends after the opener. I will never do it again.
jdmidwest Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 I still make the last day of the season if it is on a weekday. More peaceful then. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
mic Posted March 4, 2013 Posted March 4, 2013 Eh, its like Mardi Gras. Probably not for me either, but an interesting experience to try once anyway. Just to watch the people. Gavin once suggested an idea of going down there for the opener with a bunch of buddies . . . each of us all dressed up in some crazy costume. After some early morning cocktails . . . could you imagine Abraham Lincoln wearing his stovepipe hat wedges his elbows in between some way too serious fly-fishermen and starts chuckin cheese worms. Or dressed up as a gorilla in a full body suit, wade right out into the water in one of those really crowded holes and starting grunting and beating your chest at people as you snag their lines intentionally and acting like its their fault . . . Seems like the perfect atmosphere to really have some fun and just be a part of the insanity. Now I could do opening day in a costume.
joeD Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Our governor caught a trout at Montauk State Park opening day on a fly rod with a black woolly bugger. I think there is a lot of information to be gleaned from that fact. Also, I think there is a fine line between having fun, and mocking others. Especially at our age. Unfortunately, I know of what I speak (write). The idea of dressing up in a costume to show the ridiculousness of an event that many others love, without irony, shames you. The joke will be on you. Please don't do it to belittle other fishermen. It's not Halloween. Then again, there is always something pathetic about a grown man dressing up in a costume in order to get laughs and "have a good time." Party the right way. PS: Thanks for the video Idylwilde.
Terrierman Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Opening day is a good party and an opportunity to have fresh fish for breakfast, even if they are hatchery babies. A lot of fun so long as you go with the right attitude. Anyone going to a trout park looking for anything other than a trout park fishing experience will only be disappointed. If you don't like it, don't go is an easy way to deal with it.

Calling all units, calling all units. We have a self-righteous burglary in progress. At the corner of Hatchery Court and Blatherdouche. Perpetrator is armed with keyboard and trying to hard to make a point. Correct way to party SWAT van is enroute.
