Members Bimmer Posted August 1, 2013 Members Posted August 1, 2013 I guess I should have posted my contribution to the thread, instead of just making a comment. We live in Springfield and so roundtrip to the lake is about 60 miles each way. My Durango gets about 12mpg when towing the boat. That's about 10 gallons to go 120 miles or $40 at $3.40/gal. Add a tank of fuel to the 35hp motor at 6gal and that's another $20. I use the trolling motor as much as possible. So minimally $60 and that's not counting oil, parking or food and refreshments. God is my Pilot! I'm just riding "shotgun".
Quillback Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I have 100 miles round trip to Big M, at about 13 MPG, so that's about 8 gallons, I don't do a lot of running around on the big motor, and keep it around 4,000 RPM, so I will usually burn about 4-5 gallons in the 200 Merc. So about 13 gallons total. Boat gas is non-ethanol so a bit more, so it's probably $50 for fuel and oil. I usually make the trip to Big M once, and sometimes twice a week.
Quillback Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 BTW, I consider it money well spent and have no regrets

I have been told specifically by Merc that my last 3 250ProXs motors have the computer tuned to burn and uee 87 octane blend with ethanol. With the way the motors are tuned and the computers set there is no either fuel enhancement or longevity issue with the 87 oct. As a matter a fact they have a bulletin I believe about the higher octane. This is for Mercury engines 2009 and newer. Just wondering. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
denjac Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I have been reading that the 250 SHO needs to run on 89 fuel. Have to ask Howard about that when I take possession. Although 89 still has eythanol. aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I went to Lake O last weekend and we just fished for crappie off the dock, But we took the Ski boat out a lot and i figured it up, we drove a total of 76 miles in the boat, I dont want to know how much that ended up being....ouch

Although 89 still has eythanol. This reply is kind of irrelevant since most of us aren't deep-pocketed enough to own a 250 SHO. Even those of us with new ones have to settle for those ol' cheap 2-stroke black motors.
Lvn2Fish Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 From Springfield it's exactly 40 in the truck. Spend about 15 maybe 20 for boat gas , oil is not much maybe five a trip. A boat with a 250 is great . But my ranger with the 150 sips gas . And hardly burns oil.
Pepe Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 We keep the boat at the lake but the trip from St. Louis to Shell Knob cost about $140 in fuel round trip. A tank of fuel and a gallon of oil is $220. We use a quarter tank per trip if we stay close. That's about $200 for the oil company per trip. I probably should NOT have done that math.
ozarkgunner Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I went with a 18'9 boat last year for the fuel economy. I run a 2012 150 xs and it is easy on the gas. Average per morning trip 2-3 gallons. I full up about once a month. The truck gas depends where I am going. Stockton or pome cost 50-60 per trip plus ten for the boat and 2ish for oil. It still hurts when I go three times a week.
