LittleRedFisherman Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 5 years ago today, was the start of 24 days without electricity here at home from 2 to 3 inches of accumulated Ice. It was an experience for sure, especially having a 2 month old baby. I got in line that night at a parking lot as word was out some guys were coming with a semi truck full of generators, as there were none to be found, not even extention cords. It was an eery feeling that night, as we were lined up to get one, as the mood of folks there was different. No one, would dare cut in line, after it was told there was not enough to go around, i'll never forget that, could of been a riot. If it were not for Ozark Border coming from up north, and a bunch of lineman from down south, they would still be working on our power grid today. There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

BilletHead Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Neat photo for sure. I remember the big one that hit around here and did a real mess in Springfield I think in 2007. It was when Mrs. BilletHead was doing her radiation treatments. Big ice hit and we called St. Johns that Sunday night to see if they were up and running for her treatment. Yes that said don't miss any treatments the generator is running radiation oncology. We left home (North West 90 miles from Springfield at 5 AM so Pat could be the first one in line (she worked during her treatment)and wanted to be first daily so she could return back to work. On the way down there was no lights for miles. Erie feeling when every day drive like that you were used to seeing towns, yard lights, etc. Closer to town the darker it was. Had to wind our way through town with downed lines and power poles. Like a bomb had went off! We made it there by 7 AM to open doors and hardy any workers. Finally about 9 AM she got her treatment. Ham Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 It sucked. It sucked real hard. We went without power for 12 days I think. No power also means no water for us. I got really tired of hauling water. I don't know how Granny Henderson managed. So many of our trees were damaged. So much clean up work. I really, really hated it. Jerry Rapp Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 2006 was when the Farmington area got blitzed by ice, just after turkey day, I spent 3 nights in Cape to have internet access to maintain my web page.
fishinwrench Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 There's alot to be said for underground utilities. Nothing is uglier than a bunch of arial cables and poles, especially when stuff like THAT happens.
