Moswimb8slinger Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I've always had issues with flouro and the knots literally exploding ( no line/knot left on lure eye) when tied (yes it was lubricated) or freeing a stuck lure, where mono would hold up. I've tried the improved clinch, Palomar, the rapala loop knot, and the trilene knot. I tested them all this afternoon with a digit scale and all knots "exploded" at 10lbs on 20lbs test vanish. I looked up a knot on an app on my phone and found the "world exhibition" knot or gary martin knot, actually a pretty simple knot but hard to describe, see picture. This knot as tested, broke above 15lbs according to the scale and the knot was left intact on the lure eye. I now have a new found confidence in Flourocarbon...
Hunter53 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I use this one........ http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=aaplw&p=shaw+grigsby+knot
Feathers and Fins Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 The only two I use are Improved clinch and Palomar! Never had an issue with either only Floro I use is Seagar though. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Palomar knot for me, sometimes I'll use a San Diego jam knot. I use Seaguar also, and very rarely have a break at the knot.
Dutch Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I switched to the 16/20 or Pitzen knot several years ago. It is a fast knot to tie, strong, and will hold any line I use (mono, fluro, braid). I can even tie it with gloves on in the winter.
dtrs5kprs Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I use the Trilene, palomar, occasionally a uni knot. But as with F&F and Quill, I run Seaguar. Vanish is not great stuff, stick with Seaguar, Berkley 100%, or Sunline. There is a difference.
moguy1973 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 The palomar know should work perfect with fluorocarbon as long as you follow these steps: If you use braid with a fluorocarbon leader, most people have good luck with either a uni-uni knot or the Alberto knot: -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Fishin Hodge Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 My opinion is it is the line itself that is the issue. I have very poor luck with Vanish strength wise.
abkeenan Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 My opinion is it is the line itself that is the issue. I have very poor luck with Vanish strength wise. x 2. I use the trilene knot for all 4 line types (Fluoro, Braid, Co-Poly and Mono) and have never had an issue with the knot not holding except on 4# P-line co-poly that for some reason would slip and that gets the palomar now. If the line breaks its because I didn't check for nicks or a weak point in the line or was just too lazy to retie when I should have.
Members tpierce Posted January 31, 2014 Members Posted January 31, 2014 Vanish was the first flouro I used when fluorocarbon lines started gaining popularity years ago.... Lets just say there are several other brands out there that outperform Vanish. I use Seaguar and feel its one of the best lines available. It is more expensive than Vanish but in my opinion worth it.
