motroutbum Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 At least we'll have the San Juan beat at something... Taney will ALWAYS beat the San Juan at shuffling. At least there it is illegal and people do get ticketed for it. No fishing within 10 feet directly down stream of your position. There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
Old plug Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I see Phil's point clearly as well as some others. I see that it is a rule in some trout parks so it would seem maybe it need to be a rule there. That would seem the simple way to do that. But asking the legislature of Missouri to make a law would be a invitation to trouble. You can bet can bet they get there T's crossed and I's dotted but you can almost bet the words will not be so solid.
Seth Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 If MDC wanted to make it a true trophy area they would put far more strict regulations on the area. For instance Only 1 fish may be kept and it must be over 24'' in length and only Fly Fishing with single barbless hooks. That sounds like a good way to end up with an over population of dinks. I'd rather see a length limit to where no fish over a certain point can be kept. I'm not sure what that length should be but I would think 14-16" would work. Keep the small ones thinned down and protect the bigger ones at all costs. I would rather catch less fish but much nicer fish on average personally. This is just my opinion though. Most trout anglers are more in to numbers than size I would imagine.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 5, 2014 Root Admin Posted March 5, 2014 They aren't going to outlaw it. Too subjective. Enforcement nightmare. It's been discussed many times. I understand and agree with MDC's stance.
ness Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Is it just me or does he look just like Honey Boo Boo? Anyway, he made Salt Lake City proud!! LOL -- I see it. .....Back when we didn't understand lip synching. John

It is not complicated, currently the special area is from the Dam to Fall Creek, simply change it to Trophy area and make that from the dam to look-out point. Cease stocking of trout at the hatchery or only do it a couple times per year at most all other stocking to be done below Fall-creek. Taney is not some small little area, it is a very long lake, granted during summer more fish would move up toward the dam area but still I have caught them at Rockaway some 17 miles or so below the dam in the middle of summer. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
vanven Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 It should be illegal. I am not a fan and I will say something when i see shuffling. I especially hate to see dad's teaching their kids to shuffle, Their kids will walk away from that encounter having absolutely no question in their mind that it is unethical and shouldn't be repeated. -Jerod
ColdWaterFshr Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I can't get too upset by it either. I think shuffling could really only appeal to the most novice of trout fisherman, particularly one who has been frustrated or stood-up too many times and so now this new fool-proof technique is his way of paying back to salmonid nation for all the grief he's got! Or it certainly appeals to the meat-fisher, who's going to get his limit and be gone soon enough anyway. Either way, standing in those hatchery chutes to fish to the congregated fish there --- really seems depressing to me. Those are the areas they need to cordon off and make off-limits to fishing, IMO.

Let your confidence be your master.
