sms_alum Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I can't tell you the last time I targeted catfish and I definitely am not an expert regarding them, but I got an invite to go an guided blue cat trip on the Mississippi. We went with Captain Ryan Casey of Show Me Catfish. He knows his stuff and has all the best electronics, boat, and gear to put you on them. It was a great time and I would definitely recommend booking him if you get the chance and have the cash. We did a 6 hour trip on Saturday and caught probably 15 fish. The two biggest were a 57.7 lbs and a 25 lbs. All the rest in the 7-15 lbs range. This a serious change from the trout, crappie, and bass fishing I am used to.
Smalliebigs Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I know Ryan and he is the best in the St. Louis area for sure!!!!! He also seems to have a never ending supply of skippys....not sure if he catches them all but he always has them. Ryan's boat is sweet too
Terrierman Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Those are seriously nice fish. Sounds like it was a great trip all around. Cut bait I'm guessing. Skipjacks maybe?
Flysmallie Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 That looks like a fun time! You are going to need to wash that jacket. Â Â

A few years ago when we were involved with Gateway Cats, we always gave him crap because he couldn't hold a job due to always being out cat fishing and couldn't get to work on time LOL! He definitely put in the time to know those fish as well as he does. Were you guys anchor fishing? Drift fishing in the summer is an absolute blast down there!
Jerry Rapp Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 the Mississippi River is a completely untapped recourse.
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I was just checking out his website last week. Good catching. Maybe I will have such a chance to get one of them some day. His site is sincere, and he seems to be also. Smalliebigs, you told me of such fish, maybe this year I can hash out some time. Let me know. ...
