Hunter53 Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 For our first day down here on TR the wife and I had Bill take us out for a 6 hour trip. We would highly recommend him to anyone wanting to get pointed in the right direction if they are unfamiliar with the lake like us. We did a good amount of catching but was very happy how he took the time to take us to different areas and show us different technics to use while we are here. We put that information to use this evening and did well on our own without having to have Bill hold our hands. LOL. Thanks again Bill for being a great teacher!!! Caught most of our fish on the Ned rig and a splitshot rig. Probably be best if I let Bill fill in the particulars on our day as he will do a much better job of explaining stuff than me. Hopefully he can see to type as he took a bee sting right by the eye while running back at the end of the day. We are not going to want to go home after our trip as we just love it down here!!!
Quillback Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Good deal, I bet with the knowledge you picked up fishing with Bill, you're going to catch a bunch of fish while you are here.
Members gatorbitu Posted May 5, 2014 Members Posted May 5, 2014 Very nice! Glad you are having a great time on this beautiful lake.
Ham Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 That's the first thing I tell everyone relocating to Table Rock. Hire a guide a few times to help learn the lake. Definitely, in the Spring and in the Fall. Hire one in the Winter as well IF you're going to fish the cold water season. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

Unimog Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I'd like to someday hire bill even though I've been on trl several times. The two guide experiences I've had have been less than positive. Speaking of guides, is it required that the guides boat is used? Didn't know if it was part of the coast guard regs or what. I'd like to get a guide but take my own boat so I have all my own tackle available to me.
willyfish Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Why, talk to the guide before the trip and maybe bring a rod or two if you like. His office is his boat. Listen, ask questions and fish.

Very well stated. And know this ... not all guides are of equal fishing knowledge or social skills. Shop around. But I'll bet you this ... if you go with Bill Babler and are not satisfied in any way, you are just one difficult person to please.
