Last weekend my little Yorkie was in my yard and was mauled by the neighbors pit bull. The dog was 80 pounds or so I'm guessing and charged thru an electric fence and attacked. After a $1600 vet bill and 3 days in critical condition, she's going to be ok. I'm getting pretty tired of people defending pit bulls. I'm also getting pretty tired of these adoption shelters giving out a dangerous dog (this one was a rescue) to any Tom, Dick and Harry with no clue what they are dealing with. People always say put bulls get a bad rap....to that I say, it's DNA and they are bred to be killing machines so don't give me that. This was the 3rd dog that has been attacked in my neighborhood by that same dog. I believe some, not all pit bull, Rottweiler and Doberman owners have macho issues.

I don't know man. My little poodle mix, nicest dogg to everyone and all other doggs , for some strange reason attacked the neighbors prissy little yappin maltese last night. No harm done, but it could've been worse. They're animals. Sometimes things go sideways. I've met some Yorkies that were not the nicest either, but I agree in principal . . . pitbulls? yes, too much dna stacked against them, even the nice ones.

My neighbors have free ranging pits and they are good to have around (nothing ever gets stolen around here), but I agree with the "type" that choose pits for pets....Why? !!!

I generally love all dogs, med-large ones moreso than the "cats that bark" type, and never have a problem with them until I get on my mountain bike.

I can deal with just about any dog UNLESS they see me on the bike. Even good old labs and golden retrievers turn into Cujo when they see me pedaling, and that pisses me off!

I don't buy the Pit is evil argument I blame the owner. Here is a great case in point.. 3 attacks by the same dog and its still breathing? WHY?

I have seen Labs in the wrong persons hands that were more dangerous than some pits I have been around, Breeding may well play in to it to some degree but in most cases I would bet its the owner to a large degree.

Yes, it's a people problem, the dog should've been put down long ago... but those dogs are on a different level with the ability to kill.

My BIL has one named Duece. He's the most well behaved dog of any breed that I have ever seen. He's a big baby really. They do get a bad wrap but that's mostly caused by the intelligence level of their owners. They think they need a badass dog and teach it to act like it. But Mitch is right, when they attack it's vicious.

My MIL had a dauchsund attacked by a pair of Akitas. They dug a spot under her privacy fence and got a hold of him and drug him under the fence. By the time I got there he was playing dead and the Akitas were laying close. I could see him breathing. The owners weren't home so I had to go in there and get him. Those dogs were not very happy to see me but after I layed one of them out with a shovel things went smoothly. Freaking owners wanted me to pay for their vet bill! Yeah good luck with that.

Dogs are dogs. Poodles can freak and bite you. Here lies the problem. When a pit freaks it's gonna be bad ! Free range pits don't last in the country I have raised catahoula's for years and never a problem until one freaked out. It didn't see the sunset on that day. No questions asked

Did you report this to LEO or the animal control folks? I'd do it just to get it on record. I'd also find out what the law says about the legal implications of someone protecting their property, children etc., from vicious dogs entering their property. If you've got kids, this dog is a real threat.
