Members fullmoon Posted June 18, 2014 Members Posted June 18, 2014 Man i'd say that is way way out of line comment fishinwrench. If i was you i would do the same as far as a boat is concerned. But to say anyone with a nice boat and takes care of it is an ELITE IDIOT is off the chart. Good Luck with your business i would never be a customer.
Members innova Posted June 18, 2014 Members Posted June 18, 2014 I have a 2006 Etec 150 HO on the back of a 1991 Basscat Pantera II. I re-powered the cat in April 2007, Merc had a large hole in the side of the motor. The Etec was brand new at that time? Etec performs better than the 'Mercury 175 Efi that it replaced, plus uses half the oil and gas. At the time I purchased it, it was $2000 more than a new Mercury 150 2 stroke but I figured it would be worth it due to the $0 maintence for 300 hours and the extended warranty Evinrude provided at that time. Below are my maintenance / repair expenses for the past 7 years, and the motor still runs like it was new. 3/08 New lower unit - covered under warranty - cause braided fishing line 3/08 New fuel filter - covered under warranty - bad fuel 11/08 New trim buttons on throttle - covered under warranty 02/13 300 hour service around $400 don't remember exact cost. Computer history of the motor showed 337 total hours, with the majority of those hours in the 4500 - 5000 rpm range.

Secondly, If you took offense to THAT then I'm glad you'll never be stirring the dust in MY driveway. And thirdly, I'm not on here to generate business, I'm here to offer advise to guys I like and to bullshit with friends. Of which you're obviously NOT. If I was here "advertising" then I'd be paying Phil for a banner so big it'd crash your s#it everytime you logged on. Now, back to the topic at hand..... The new Evinrudes really aren't that much uglier than this POS are they? Looks like a naked hunchback Mrs. Buttersworth with bad ink. I really get a charge out of the buzzword "four stroke" on the cowling. As if to say "we want to be sure you know this is a 4 stroke engine because the term "4 stroke" is totally cool now !" LOL
Ham Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Hey Wrench, you missed my point ; Lots of new fishing boats on the market that the total cost of GREATLY exceeds 30K. Glad you're happy with your choices. Nice to see you're still making friends. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
fishinwrench Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Oh I'm aware of what a boat/motor/trailer combo can cost, but I'm also aware that the most expensive fishing boat the type of people I am talking to HERE and NOW are likely to own is in the 30k range or less. Nice to see you're still making friends. Was that a shot? Not making new ones, just keeping the old ones.....kinda like boats I like the ones with character.
mixermarkb Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Ham is right wrench- if I could buy a new 20' bass cat with a 225/250 and all the electronics to compete with the 15 and 16 year old champions I run for $30K, I'd sell mine and buy me a new one. We are in the 40-50K range easy, and that's before the crazy toys like power poles! I do think the trend will be re-powering. I wonder if the sales of new outboards is already pulling away from the sales of new hulls? I just don't see the reason to buy a new hull unless mine break. Carpet, seats, etc and I have a nearly new boat. There just isn't that much new about bass boat design. They just get a few inches longer and wider every couple of years to hold the camera guys for TV...

Howdy Wrench speaking of boats with character I didnt want to spend 699.00 buck for new bench seats so I went to BPS Outlet and bought me 2 folding bucket seats for 15.00 bucks a piece, got me a new water pressure gauge and tach a 26 pitch raker prop for a 150.00 bucks and a 6'' mechanical jack plate for 125.00 bucks and found a big hunk of grey carpet left over from when my step dad replaced the carpet on his deck boat so i'm fixing to spiff the old girl up a bit this weekend. i gotta stay on my poor boy budget cause the fuel bill gonna eat me alive lmbo!!!!
Bill Babler Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Bill you are lucky. My 07 Avalanche would burn almost a quart of oil in between 3000 mile oil changes. I looked online and found that to be normal. I loved my avalanche but it had constant minor issues. Air ride went out twice, fuel sending unit, air control unit, cruise switch and a tranny. All within 18 months. Sold it and got a Dodge 2500 with 5.9 Diesel and haven't had one issue in 7 months. I never thought I would own a dodge. Now im not sure I will buy anything but. I've had a total of 5 chevy avalanche's since they came out and have never had one back for anything but an oil change. A good client of mine has one that he has put 280.000 miles on and it is still running perfect. He has put brakes and general maintenance on it. Had a tranny rebuild at 200.000 and if you look at it you would think it was new.. My best buddy bought a 2012 dodge like yours and everything on it has went out except the motor. He has had issues with the door locks and windows, the power steering gear, radio and a glitch in the transmission. He said there was a bulletin on that. As soon as he gets it near paid off, it is going away big time. All these vehicles are different, it is nothing more than a crud shoot when ya get one. I just have had tremendous luck with my last 5 trucks and hundreds of thousands of miles towing boats. Good Luck http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

I have had several customers with a blown engine, instead of buying a new boat, they are just buying new engines. They always tell me: I love the boat, i will just put a new engine on it.
Unimog Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I leave all the sales tax paying to you elite folks that like to spend 1/2 hour with a chamois cloth everytime you put it back in the trailer. To me that's not a fishing boat....it's yet another high maintenance girlfriend that I'm better off without. I didn't know you saw me at the ramp, you should have said hi! You forgot the next half hour spent with the bottle of detailer with beer break in between. While laying under there I've often though fishing was a lot like work!
