If money was no object, I think it would be fair to say that most of us would like to have a new boat and top of the line rods and reels. I know that i would.

probably a true statement, but the truth is you can catch just as many fish from a bathtub with some decent electronics, and a good trolling motor. but, there is certainly not one thing wrong with having some very good equipment, including the boat.

If you can afford it and your wife gives you her blessing by all means let it rip.

Yeah but the wifes blessing usually comes in the form of ANOTHER console that is undeniably IN THE WAY unless the boat is as big as a frikken Winnebago and requires 225-300 hp just to get it on plane.

Another drawback to "blessings from the lil'woman" is that after you spend 60,000.00 (is that better, Ham?)

on a bassboat...then you can't mutter so much as a heavy sigh at a new pastel colored mini-van and 197 pairs of new shoes (and I ain't talking Payless crap either) that will be sold at garage sale prices with tags still intact next year, or just given to friends and co-workers that have similar sized feet.

Call it a "blessing" if ya want but...... :)

Three of the four powered boats I've bought we're purchased used. The boat I bought new I ran for > 10 years and used it hard

By all means, buy what you can afford and be happy in that.

Not all of us are married to Type A women. Donna is every bit as fond of the boat and all of our fishing equipment as I am, and she owns no more pairs of shoes than me, which at last count was 3 or 4. Doesn't drive a mini-van either. And catches as many or more fish than I do. Fishes when it's 20 degrees or 100 degrees and everything in between, rain or shine. Can back a boat trailer better than most men.

You bring up a good point ham. A buddy of mine who does pretty well for himself, but lives modestly, brought up a good point years back. He had a couple cars he owned; that were a few years old, but still nice and in good shape. He was drooling over some new luxury vehicle, myself and a buddy with him told him he should treat himself, and buy that new fancy car he wanted. He refused and said,

"naw.......cause then it never ends. There will always be a faster car, bigger boat, bigger house out there. And I don't see this new, fancy car making me $50,000.00 happier than what I have; so I'll stick with what I got and enjoy it."

-

That comment has stuck with me for years, and I tell people that all the time......"just enjoy what you can afford":-)

And by the way.........anyone see that built in oil reservoir on the new g2 evinrude?..........hey........wait a minute........I almost got us back on topic.(Hahahaha)..........as you were.:-P

Yeah you're a lucky basturd. I gave up on finding a fishing chick for myself but I raised one for somebody else. :)
