moguy1973 Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 A Smallie on the Meramec in the St Louis area??!? That sounds promising! Especially for a fish of that size! Outstanding. Might I ask, without giving away the exact spot, was this above or below Castlewood State Park? -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Smalliebigs Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 A Smallie on the Meramec in the St Louis area??!? That sounds promising! Especially for a fish of that size! Outstanding. Might I ask, without giving away the exact spot, was this above or below Castlewood State Park? hahahahaha.......the fish have been there and they will continue to be there......you guys crack me up. I guess your lack of sucess tells you there aren't any smallies here???....I have caught several fish in the 18 inch class from times beach to Fenton and have given explicit direction on where to go......here's a clue if you want a big smallie around here go where the mini railroad is to the sherman bridge....there is some of the deepest water on the Meramec in a hole there....good fishing thru there if you know what yer doing.
Members Born to Fish Posted August 23, 2014 Members Posted August 23, 2014 SWEET!!! That's probably at least a 10 year old fish. Thanks for releasing it and giving somebody else a chance to catch her too.
MOsmallies Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 That's one hell of a 1st smallie!!! Some people fish years without ever coming close to that. Congratulations!
Haris122 Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Looks fairly similar to a spot I frequent, but there are a few things not quite like it, unless a big fallen tree that would be behind that smallmouth has somehow got swept away. Sweet fish btw. I'd be especially jealous if it would be the same spot I'm thinking of as I've had limited luck for anything there, much less a quality fish like that.
Johnsfolly Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 That's a great first smallmouth. In Missouri you won't catch many as large or larger than that one. You should be hooked from this point forward. I enjoy catching river smallmouth over largemouth. They fight harder, jump more, and tend to be much mroe aggressive, at least in the rivers and creeks I fish frequently.
joeD Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Matt Carpenter, shouldn't you be with your team, instead of fishing?
Members Dman Posted August 29, 2014 Members Posted August 29, 2014 I think you know what you're doing now! Congrats!
