snagged in outlet 3 Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 I fish both rivers almost monthly throughout the year. I agree with Phil and I've noticed the same difference in rainbows from Norfork to the White too. Those rainbows in the Norfork are darker colored than the ones on the White. Even the bigger rainbows (15-20 inches) on the White are not as dark. I thinks it due to the water clarity and the lighter bottom on the White. Both Taney and Norfork can look almost black on the bottom at times. Just my opinion. Pete
Greasy B Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Some White River fish we caught a couple of weeks ago had color. Quillback Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Looks like a couple of cutthtroat in those first 2 pics? Pretty fish.
grizzly Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Looks line a cutty in the second picture, but tough to tell. . .
Ham Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I think the first two fish are Cutts. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Greasy B Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 yeah, Snake River Fine Spotted. For the longest time I caught none longer than 6-8 inches, it looks like some managed to survive long enough to put on a few inches. As soon as they were hooked it was obvious they were not production fish, excellent fighters. I was hoping to catch one of the newly planted Bonneville Cutthroat, no luck. On this most recent trip the Rainbows were an inch or two bigger than a couple of months ago, though I still couldn't find one pretty enough to be picture worthy. I'm looking forward to another trip or two this winter, maybe the Bows will be able to get in a little grow between the put and the take. Terrierman Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Tyler caught a 14 1/2" rainbow on 12/30. No trophy but no stocker either. Most of our fish that trip were 12" range.
grizzly Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Looking back on my notes, I caught plenty of fish I deemed "cuttbows". Wish I had pictures to share(this is on my list of things to do, pack in a camera to support my fishing lies).

A lot of rainbows will get an orange streak at their jaw without actually breeding with the cutthroats. I doubt there are many, if any at all actual hybrids in the river there. I know I have seen people say they caught cuttbows or actual cutthroats in taney when there really aren't any.
joeD Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I wish AGF would put a slot limit on rainbows on the White (in a semi limited area). Just think how big they would grow. Then we wouldn't be talking about color, would we?
