Champ, did you guys try any other jerkbaits besides the RC STX? I wonder if a LC Pointer, Spro McStick, Spro McRip, Megabass 110 or 110 +1, or Rspala X Raps would have triggered any other bites. I like to fish something different than what my fishing partner is throwing.

If I had one jerkbait and one only, it would be a vision 110 in stain reaction. French pearl is also good, but the orange belly of the stain reaction is without a doubt the best bait I have found in over 40 years of stickbaiting on TableR Rock.

I have well over 200 stick baits, with about 1/3rd being custom painted, and the stain reaction is the one that is on one of my rods at all times, either bright or cloudy, it is one deadly sonofagun.

It is also one of the best colors for lake of the Ozarks, not to mention a Bull Shoals walleye getter.

The wood thing is what I noticed the other day. Not all came from wood but as the day went on it seemed more critical. They'd blast it sometimes. The one in the pic with my son came of a lay down even.

Good for you all going though. We went for another unsuccessful day of pre wart hunting.

Ham, I did not deviate from the RC STX. Probably should have in hindsight. We are going back Saturday and I'm definitely going to throw a McRip and a Jackall Squirrel 79SP. I think getting down a bit deeper may yield some positive results. I just had a feeling driving home last night that I wasn't getting my bait down to a lot of the fish. I hate when the water starts getting so cold that you can't hardly get bit.

just picked up a few RC STX baits. Was planning on changing out hooks and rings.

will probably use the Gammy G #6 or the Mustad triple grips #6

what size rings would you recommend?

Anyone else have experience with changing out on these in terms of buoyancy, action, etc?

I've actually found the stock hooks and rings to be of pretty good quality. I do change them out for Daichi Deathtraps for tournament fishing, staying with the same size rings that are on there, and have not had any change in action or buoyancy.

They seem to have improved the quality of the hardware after taking a beating for bad rings early on. Not as good as a mc stick, or megabass, but better than early on. I bought a few more rc's and did not get too worked up about swapping things out. Think I changed one of each color, and threw the backups in the box as is.

It seemed like the smaller versions of the RC suffered more from the poor quality rings and hooks than did the full size version. We have just caught a ton of white bass on both sizes, and with the way they pull it is still a problem on the smaller ones. A big Sow White bass in 50+ degree water will straighten out that BP swivel in about a half a heart beat and where we have had problem on the hook is with it breaking rather than bending.

Really agree here with Champ. If I'm fishing a derby I would want nothing to do with either the rings or the hooks, but for everyday, good to go.
