Dave, I've been try not to blame you, Richard across, and Ned K. for my problems BUT since you brought it up. All the extra hooksets from the Ned Rig and the Zig Jig may have sent me tumbling over the overuse injury edge.

I'll keep reading up on the subject and keep trying to work it out. I may find the right combination of therapies to get me pain free.

Meds, stretching, ice, brace, and productive pillows for now. Massage therapy, steroid injections, and Maye even stem cell injections later on. One thing for sure, I can't just "not fish" for 8-12 months. I'd sooner cut the darn arm off than that. I hate to not fish for 8 days.

I have had it in both elbows, wrists, and right shoulder. Feels like a hot match imbedded in my joints. Icing it for awhile, then heating it gave me enough relief to fall asleep (mine hurt so bad at times that I was about ready to chop my arm off). As soon as I woke up I'd have to grab some dumbells and excersize it, then basically keep moving all day. If I stopped and rested for very long it would start hurting unbearably.

Eventually it just goes away, but it takes awhile. My shoulder incident was the longest and the pain stayed with me for 6-7 months.

Drinking soda always seemed to make it hurt worse for some reason.

On a positive note..... I haven't had a repeat episode on the same spot. It is almost like once you've healed the area it strengthens/toughens it.

Go to a Chiro or a good massage therapist and have them massage the inflamed tendons 2-3 times a week. It will be gone in a month.

I had same thing for a year. That's what I did and it worked. No drugs, didn't stop what I was doing.

The massage breaks up the bad stuff and allows blood to get in and heal the tendons. But I warn you - it will hurt like heck!!! Especially the first week. If it doesn't hurt, they're not rubbing hard enough!

Wear your rubber pants!

The other thing you might look at is the diameter of your rod handles and reel seats, especially on spinning rods. George Roth, who was/is a board sponsor on the Bass Fishing Home Page and a custom builder of note, wrote a great article about the move to smaller diameter handles/grips/seats on spinning rods causing hand/wrist/arm pain. Basically, removing material to make grips lighter makes you squeeze the handle harder, and causes more pain and fatigue. He was moving to a wider grip, and in particular a wider diameter TN style handle to work around the issue. Since he was also a practicing ER physician's assistant I took it to heart.

My last two personal spinning builds have been fat handled TN rods, and am wrapping one for a friend today. I take an extra step and wrap the TN seat with cushioned grip tape, actually Wilson tennis racket tape from Walmart. It is a good bit cheaper than the various fishing specific handle wraps.

It has made a big difference in the amount of pain I have. Still hurts but it is better. The wraps are a quick way to thicken up standard factory handles too. I have a GLX and a Mossyback that are both wrapped. You can see what it looks like in one of my finesse videos, and in many of the Don Baldridge "WinkieDoodles" videos. He wrapped some of his after fishing with me last spring.

You know you're a man when you dub yourself "WinkieDoodles".

Ham, I can sympathize with fishing in pain. My left labrum is torn and has been for over a year now. I can't take time off work, or off of fishing, so I cope. I've started going with more spinning tackle since setting the hook with a caster in my left hand is a bit tender. Do we continue to fish because we lack the self-preservation sense not to, or is it because of the self-preservation sense that we must carry on?

I had it several times. When I did I would put a wrist support where the pain is. Some of those supports come with a little pad in them. You press that right on top of where it hurts then wrap the support on top of it and wrap it tight. A lot of drug store have them. They are a 2 or 3 inches wide and connect with velcro. Then just flip nd pitch for awhile. You can really pitch a good distance with little effort with a spinning real.

I wish I could do something that simple. I cannot stand and fish for more than a hour or so. And temperatures from 45 on down will turn my hands to ice even in gloves

Start carrying some of those hot handz hand warmers in your pockets. They last 12 to 18 hours and the difference they make in hand comfort is incredible. I think they are something like $5.00 for a 12 pack at Walmart. Well worth it.
