After a post @ness made and then I cannot remember who (sorry) showed us the fermenting lids for mason jars I knew I had to try.

What type of fermentation lids did you get? I like the idea of those. I have a 5 L crock I've used for kraut and pickles, but would be interested in something smaller scale.

Just a salt water brine, I suppose? I'd be interested to hear more about the process.

Sunday was something else new. French onion soup.

I looove French onion soup, even without the bread and cheese. But, wifey can't do too much onion so I haven't made it in a long time.

So I told you the other day about the KFC bowl and that I was going to kick it up a notch.
So in my version I added green beans and dressing. I think the dressing really makes it. Green beans or corn or both is just a preference.

Picture quality leaves a lot to be desired. But my taste buds didn’t care one iota!!

These guys right here, plus I ordered some glass weights. These lids may be the ones that were posted way back when (sorry again). thumbnail_0112211649.jpgthumbnail_0112211650.jpg

I’ve got those lids but no glass weights. I saw a video of a guy making Kraut with those.

Kraut may be next after the deal we are trying now. Check out amazon for weights. All kinds of types. I chose these because easy to grab the knob for lifting out.

We did KFC bowls the other night too.....which led to yet another fight in the kitchen.   She wanted to use chicken nuggets, which SOUNDED fine to me at first.   But the stupid chicken nuggets that she bought were not REAL chicken meat!    They were like little deep-fried balls of chicken flavored BREAD.     What a let down THAT was !

I threw a huge tantrum about it, which destroyed everyones chances for the yummy desert she had planned.  She was pissed, the kids were pissed....and of course it was all my fault.

You'd think that by now I would have learned to just shut up and not debate about what I'm being fed....But Noooo.  Not me!    Ol' "Say whatever you're thinking" Wrench here 🙄

Who knew there was such a thing as name brand "chicken nuggets" that don't have any chicken meat in them????  WTH?

We're  still working on getting the salt level correct for our kraft. We were going to grab a larger crock when we passed thru Ohio, but trip COVID Canceled.

Sue makes a really good french onion soup.i prefer a rich beef stock. We haven't  played with onion varieties. She tends to just use the cheaper yellow onions.

I can eat the soup alone but really like t he bread and cheese.

I hate to buy them because they are extraordinarily expensive, but love to use them because they work so well so many ways, chicken tenders.

Your ole man would straighten you up.  We sure haven’t had any luck with ya😁  Or.....   You could cook dinner?

The French onion soup I learned in culinary school was so tedious (beef stock, caramelized purple onion, a float to remove impurities, toppings) that I never make it. Even though it was a PITA, the end product unfairly makes all else seem cheap and dirty.

I'll cook you a fine dinner. 👍

I Promise you one thing for sure.....If I fed you something disguised as MEAT, and upon dissecting it you discovered there wasn't a bit of real meat in it.....I would WANT and EXPECT you to raise hell about it.   😅
