rps Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Put up 8 pints of bread and butter pickles today. I was making up for paint by number cooking the last two days - the wife and I had a house guest who was vegetarian and who did not eat raw onions, asparagus, or fish/shellfish of any form, not even fish sauce or Worcestershire sauce. Ever tried to make a puttanesca sauce without anchovy? How about stir fry without fish sauce? Best I could do was a tray of cheese enchiladas with a green chilies sauce.

It's an insult, not to mention bad manners, that guests impose their various idiosyncratic needs on otherwise accommodating hosts. Give the guest(s) gluten free oatmeal without sugar and caffeine and then tell them to go chew your pesticide free grass outside. Remind them it would be a natural colonic and will leave them clean and morally pure.

I always try to meet the needs and wants of guests but when they get too picky I give them the "eat it or dont, but it's what's for supper" line. If it's a health issue i.e.allergic to something, sure I will make sure I don't use it, but have had guests say things like "oh we only eat organic vegetables", well you are in luck, I am all out of synthetic vegetables. Johnsfolly Posted July 18, 2016 Posted July 18, 2016 We have a friend that has some serious food allergies. So I have no issue with a guest that needs special care due to allergies. I can't stand folks that choose a lifestyle that insist that you have to adhere to that lifestyle as well and pander to their needs. There was a vegetarian that we worked with in Ireland that would eat bacon and seafood. I'm not sure she understood what it was to be a vegetarian. MOPanfisher and ness 2
