ness Posted October 26, 2016 Author Posted October 26, 2016 Haven't seasoned mine in years. They stay seasoned and I don't cook anything in them that diminishes the seasoning. John
snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 You can see your reflection on the bottom of mine. I never let the women touch it. I've never seasoned mine either. It's never had soap in it.

But it never loses it's season because I'm constantly adding to it. Cooking a greasy pizza in it occasionally doesn't hurt.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I saw a cooking show the other day and they said they never need to be seasoned and using soap doesn't bother them either.

I've gotta disagree. When I've had really bad, crusty buildup I tried soap and it did jack up the seasoning. Also, anything acidic (tomatoes, lemon juice, etc.) will eat away at it. Mine's pretty much relegated to frying chicken these days so I don't encounter those problems. John
Terrierman Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I'm a philistine and use my cast iron for anything. Sometimes the seasoning gets wasted as a result. I just coat with vegetable oil so they don't rust and carry on.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 I use mine for frying like that catfish which was awesome. I fry food in my garage like every normal hillbilly. BilletHead 1
BilletHead Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Did someone say cast iron? My cast iron is near and dear to my heart. We have nine assorted skillets. Three not pictured are more modern lodge skillets. The others are hand me downs from my grandmothers. Wish I could hear some of the stories behind some of these. Use them all the time and yes there could be more clean up but the crust on a few of these are pure love and one could only imagine what has been cooked in them. the deepest one has no markings at all. The last one just says 10 1/2 inch skillet. For those of you looking for info, http://www.castironcollector.com/trademarks.php Go to the forum discussions on the above link too. More info here on cast iron than on the ned rig . I have my eye on a single handled square griddle. See there is an old crusty man living in a trailer. A trailer that is on its last leg, he may be too? So when we drive by and it is raining there is always laundry hanging out. We are thinking this is how his clothes get cleaned. TRUTHFULLY this is a fact only when it rains we see this. Well lately there is this square griddle hanging on the clothes line. I need to have a chat with him and get the scoop. May be something to add to the collection? Could be junk also ?
