5bites Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I've been thinking about this the last couple of days and exchanged a few emails with folks. Probably will keep this one at Eagle Rock, which I realize is out of some folks range. We had a pretty good turn out, and I don't want to relocate to make the tourney bigger as far as having more people, just for the sake of making it bigger. And we'll probably lose some of the upper end crowd if we were to move mid-lake. Makes it a long drive for me also. So pencil in next year, mid-March time frame, back at Eagle Rock for round 2. I won't file the paper work until the end of this year, and I'll update everyone at that point as to the exact date. You never know, someone may put on an OA tourney on the lower end later this year. That sounds great to me. When I mentioned Baxter I meant for a fall tournament specifically. I think a late fall deer season tournament would be great. Muddy Water and magicwormman 2
Members kbillb Posted March 18, 2015 Members Posted March 18, 2015 First off, a big Thank You to Quill, Bill, Phil, and everyone for putting together the first OAF Big Bass tournament! What a great event! I would have posted sooner but my air card didn’t want to play. Fished with my son Austin and we really appreciated the chance to meet the OAF folks that attended. It was also cool to meet and chat with some of our neighbors form Emerald Beach. All the food was delicious, and I agree the chili/macaroni dish and potato salad were awesome! Well Austin was fortunate enough to catch the winning fish and I couldn’t be prouder. He is a junior at UCM, no telling where life will take him so I always enjoy the times he fishes with old dad. You guys this is a big deal for Austin! He was cheesing ear to ear all the way home….I will always remember that boat ride. He couldn’t believe all the nice comments he received not to mention the goodies. Bo’s NuTech jigs, Dave’s Ned heads, the Lew’s rod and tackle from Sportsman’s Factory Outlet are all awesome and are more than a huge addition to Austin’s tackle collection. I did not catch the name of the person who contributed the gas cards but thank you. If I understood Austin also gets a couple of paint jobs from Tim Hughes, if so that’s great. The trophy is on prominent display and will always remind us of an amazing day. Apologize if I missed anyone, very generous of all you folks, Austin and I are truly grateful…….Thank You! As far as fishing we decided to run back to our neck of the woods and fished from Rock Creek to the mouth of the Kings. Started out fishing stick baits around timber on the main lake and picked up a few shorts. We worked our way back in to one of the creeks and found warmer water with some color. Well that was the deal for us, started throwing warts and caught several fish with 5 keepers on that stretch of bank, biggest being 17 inches. We tried a couple more creeks but no luck. Ended up going back to the creek we had caught fish in earlier and around 2:00 that’s were Austin caught our biggest of the day. Thanks again, the Champ (at least for a year) and I are already looking forward to next year! Hunter53, 5bites, rps and 1 other 4

MOsmallies Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Very Nice and congrats to your son kbillb! So what was the winning weight? What were the top 3 weights?
Champ188 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Too cool. Just wish all the derbies had that same fun factor. This one had the fun factor because it lacked what ruins a lot of the others ... money and the yayhoos who will do just about anything for it. rps, Muddy Water and Hunter53 3
