Guest Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Not sure, but I dont think you can spray different createx paint types without orange peeling the clear coat. for instance, I sprayed base coat with regular createx, then middle coat with Auto Air 4600 candy pigment, then top coat of the Auto Air 4400 Color Shift FX- gem ruby It was an awesome color but it gave me fits trying to clear coat it. I ended up having to scrap Etex & go with D2T to prevent orange peeling. http://www.createxcolors.com/techcharts
dtrs5kprs Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Hey there's an idea lol. Lowes apparently sells a rotisserie setup for $35ish some use. I'm using my rod dryer and a very ghetto setup with a broken rod, tape, old brushes, and alligator clips. It'll change eventually. Soon I hope actually. It's pretty hideous. He can turn the first one or two by hand. After doing that for an hour or so, the rotisserie will become an immediate need . I used a BBQ rotisserie, and hole sawed out some circles that fit along the length of the rod. Then used threaded rod to add alligator clips. Has been fine for sticks and cranks, takes a little adjustment to do things like a jointed redfin.

Flysmallie Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 +1 for the BBQ rotisserie it's what I use too Me too.
ness Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I find the Devcon 30-minute epoxy thick enough that I don't have to turn them. I usually do two thin coats. That said, I like the setup you have dtrs5kprs. I knocked my turning motor onto the basement floor a while back, and it broke apart and I can't get it to work. John
Flysmallie Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I usually do two thin coats. I don't. If I ever use epoxy it's because I want it thick. Real thick.
5bites Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 What method do you all prefer when you have to grab onto the hook hangers to dry? I've used my current setup with alligator clips but finish got on the clips. If I get a smaller bite with the clips then I'm afraid the lure will somehow fall off or move around.
ness Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 I don't. If I ever use epoxy it's because I want it thick. Real thick. Two thin = one thick, smarty pants. John
BilletHead Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Why do I have the feeling Ness and Flysmallie are baiting me to post on this thread? Oh by the way smarty pants #1 and #2 ONE THICK COAT So here we go. The BlletHead starts from balsa stock and carves his own. So far fly rod poppers and sliders. Have done six poppers with tandem trebbles for the spin fishing crowd and three of these have gone to members on here. I have posts on here for the full build and my trials and tribulations on this journey. Ok I use a drying wheel for the epoxy stage, I use alligator clips with heavy straight pins epoxied in them. use rubber bands on the clips for more strength, This is a new batch I just finished yesterday, I use the copic system and an el cheapo harbor freight compressor, Stencils so far netting for scale effect and hair picks for barring, I hold my work with needle nosed vice grips when spraying, Hemostats when hand painting. Base coat el cheapo acrylic paint brushed. Eyes are made with various sized wires. Stippling dots are like Ness said, Drill bits and needles, nails, etc. put in dowels for easy handling. I have been even stippling with felt pins too. Working nice! This is a good thread that got started. Neat seeing everyone's methods. I am simple and go what I think is simple. No toxic fumes or possible flame outs for me!
