dtrs5kprs Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 See ? You can't get away from it. I was docking a boat earlier and the dude on the dock next door was obviously throwing a Ned around. I simply asked how he was doing, and that was a mistake. He trotted over to show me the "damnedest bait he has ever thrown", and I got a 40 minute schooling on it AGAIN. I really had to bite my tongue to keep from telling him that he was using the wrong type jig head. Oh and speaking of better than average fish.....he claimed a pair of 5's recently. So the jighead thing might be moot. Not only are a bunch of guys throwing it, they also can't quit talking about it. That is because the stupid little deal flat catches the green or brown off of them. Had a gentleman place a big order this week because he watched some folks fishing it on a chunk rock bank by his dock at Pomme. Smalliebigs 1
fishinwrench Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I have no doubt. The only folks that aren't hip to it are the bait shop owners around here. Go figure. Seems they are too busy talking, to listen.

Al Agnew Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 It's not magic. A good angler who has confidence in it and fishes it right will undoubtedly catch a lot of fish on it. Somebody like me who finds it a boring way to fish will probably fish it half-heartedly for a while and then go back to what I like to fish. Case in point...I was wading on of my favorite small creeks. The topwater bite was a little off, so I figured it was time to try the Ned rig. I had the right jig heads and a few of the right plastics. I fished it through two good pools, pools I knew were full of fish. I caught one fish on it. I went back to the topwaters, and in the next two pools I caught six fish and had strikes from three or four more. I haven't fished it since. I fully acknowledge that wasn't a thorough test, and that I probably wasn't fishing it all that effectively. I suspect that it might be an excellent choice in heavily pressured waters, especially the big lakes. It is the kind of finesse lure that usually does very well on such waters. But the less heavily pressured waters I usually fish in the summer are full of bass that will almost always take topwaters and other fast-moving lures high in the water column where I can see them hit, so at best the Ned rig would be one of those things I try in desperation on the rare occasions when the other stuff isn't working...and most times the desperation lures don't work for me either. riverrat 1
Terrierman Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Everybody should always fish with what they want to fish with. If you're not asking for advice and don't want it or need it I see no need to dump on people who are answering other people's questions about any particular bait or method or to dump on a method you don't use or care for. It's a low class way of doing business if you ask me. Quillback 1

I have not caught on as fast as them as I have not slowed down enough. I have caught fish on it but not like my wife and my dad, it's actually pretty amazing how well they do with that sucker. Dave's jig heads are really badass....I buy baits from people all over the country and Dave's jig heads have top of the line components and he has that Ned head refined down, your not gonna find any better for the technique....no doubt.
Norm M Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 some folks prefer to fish with aggressive tactics, others prefer much more subtle. there is a guy I fish with on occasion on my river that prefers and is very skilled at low and slow. I prefer fast and aggressive. For the most part when we fish together we both catch fish. on the days we fish the river by ourselves in different locations but similar current conditions we catch fish. fish the way you enjoy as long as it's legal and ethical . what a long strange trip it's been , put a dip in your hip, a glide in your stride and come on to the mother ship , the learning never ends

His jigs are nice and so are everybody else's, But are they the best? there's no such thing imo Just like BASS and FLW they label their "pros" the best bass fisherman in the world, they are good, some of them great, but how do you label someone the best when you have not seen all there is to see?.
