Chief Grey Bear Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Uhhh yeah, the elk has been around a few million years. You boys seem to get a little testy when will we don't wet pants over the ned rig talk. Where'd Chuck go? Ham Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Seriously, I've been fishing jig worms for > 30 years. And soft plastics on lead heals for > 40 years. You'd think I'd be better at it by now. grizwilson 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

Daryk Campbell Sr Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I was just rubbing you guys. I agree, it does get a lot of attention, and I think that it should. I was able to catch half of my fish on it at the OAF Big Bass Tournament. ( I only caught 2 fish). Full disclosure, I have never been to the Elk, really don't know where it is located. Just wanted to give someone somewhere a smile. :-) Guess it did not work for you Chief. Sorry. Chief Grey Bear Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 It's a beautiful river its just not one of my favorites for fishing. I would recommend that you float sometime if you get a chance. jtram Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I hate the Elk. Lay down your criteria. You hate the Elk, or you hate upper Elk and thousands of drunks that have ruined the upper?
Terrierman Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Why is it that every time there's a discussion about the "Ned rig" folks have to jump all over it? I'm not a hater or a fanboy..yet. I owe a lot of fish at the hot lake to the ned when I couldn't get them to bite on much else on a few bluebird days. I don't think it will ever replace my standards in the creek, but I'll give them a fair shot this year. But still, it seems like every time folks have to talk about how it's not really new. I think Babler even uses a different name for it as if to show he's known about this longer than the rest of the Johnny-come-latelys. When the A-rig got big, folks were saying "umbrella rigs have been around for a long time." The whole thing is like if I were to tell someone I really liked X band, and they said "well I liked them before they were cool." You know that guy? I do know that guy.
Terrierman Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Stream or lake, more fish in the boat seems better. Guess you can take the trout approach of only wanting to catch them on one particular bait. I just want to meet them all, ask them how they have been, and send them home. Ham and I were fishing the White last Saturday. We were catching a lot of fish, some were bigger than others. I offered the opinion that they were ALL nice fish. Every big fish started out as a little fish. I'm not offended in the least by catching a 7" smallmouth bass. And honestly I like it about as much as catching a 14" smallmouth. Either way that fish is going right back in the water. I'm still a kid at heart and it's getting a little late to hope for much more growing up to ever happen and change my outlook. grizwilson and Ham 2

MOPanfisher Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I heard about the Ned rig so much I finally had to look it up to see what it was. Turns out I had used it for years just didn't know it had a name. I love using what I had called a "do nothing jig" in creeks and river because besides smallmouth smacking it the gogglers and greenies hate it too and them fellers is delicious. It will remain one of my top 5 or so lures just for sheer versatility sake. Terrierman 1
