Well, I thought I would never say this, let along tell anyone, but I am going to get rid of my Pam 100 and buy a solo canoe. After a dozen or so years of paddling my trusty yak I have decided to buy a solo canoe. I have loved fishing from my yak, but since I have gotten older it is way harder for me to get in and out of the darn thing. That and after a couple of hours on the water my back starts killing me! And I have one of the better phase III seating on mine. I have been looking at the OT Disco in 119 or the OT Guide in 119. I'm guessing they are the same boat? Dick's has the OT Guide for $499 and I've noticed the Disco is $699? Material used I am guessing? Wouldn't mind a Pack either if I could find one at a good price. I feel so dirty giving up my yak! lol Has anyone else here switched from a yak to a solo canoe and if so what are your feelings on this? Will I be able to stop on a dime and paddle back upstream ok? I know I will gain storage space so that is a plus, but will I give up anything important? I want something more comfortable to fish from other than my yak. Let's here it!

Sitting up a little higher is a really good thing.

Not as easy to paddle upstream in a canoe but still doable.

I have been solo'ing from a OT Guide 147 for going on 9 years and I can't think of a single place I've wanted to get to that I couldn't..... or could have IF I was in a yak.

Shame, Shame, Shame. I'm just kidding, just keep fishing whatever it takes.

I have no experienxce with solo canoes and double bladed paddles, but lots of people do ; You'll get your answer from them.

I just bought one of these http://jacksonkayak.com/blog/kayak/coosa-hd/ and have only paddled around Creve Couer park's lake but, the seat is quite comfortable and much more comfortable than their old version of this rig. If a comfortable seating position while fishing and paddling is what you desire as do I then this is your boat.

The OT DISCO's are crap.....ever since Johnson Outdoors became the parent company for OT I wouldn't even waste my money on their products as they suck from what I have seen the last 5 years or so.. The OT DISCO platform is not the best IMO but, there are thousands of loyal followers of that boat that customize them and make them look cool but, I have found them to be not the most stable boat and way too short......but like a sucker I have bought two from dick's when they are on sale for very cheap and they great for the nieces and nephews to beat the dung out of. OT does have a new solo canoe that is interesting but, I wouldn't pay for their crappy workmanship or lack there of http://www.oldtowncanoe.com/canoes/next/

I would go with a real company like Wenonah if you have to buy a solo canoe......their best solo platform is the Vagabond http://www.wenonah.com/Canoes.aspx?id=73 how you make that seat comfortable is on you, they are great to float and fish out of as I have. From what I have learned about solo canoes you want at least the length of the Vagabond IMO.

I have two OT DICO 119 from Dicks and I don't use either but, they are very easy to throw in the back in my truck......but I like fishing from my Coosa's.....we all have our opinions, the weight of my Coosa's does not bother me now but in the future it may??? they weigh 74lbs and my new one weighs 84lbs.......that could become an issue for me but, for now they are just too nice to fish from comfortably.

Ham I have been over to the dark side for sometime now! I think I bought my Pam 100 back in 2002 when all the guys on River Smallies were getting into them. I have loved it, but am just finding it harder and harder to get in and out of. It's starting to fall apart as well. Price will be a BIG factor in what I get as well. The Coosa looks great, but I'm not forking out that kind of cash. I think the Nucanoe is nice as well, but I think the price is over me.

Nucanoe

After months of research & comparisons, Im almost ready to proclaim Nucanoe my favorite, on paper. Lol

I havent paddled the NuCanoe yet, so idk how its going to manuever.

Snagged,

Can you give a comparison of the uncanoe vs other yaks & standard canoes?

Coosa HD is 79 pounds. I'd have to bring my butler to help me get that on top of the Car :D

It's not the 79 lbs per se, but the weight out there on the ends of the lever that makes it tough. My 65 lb Tarpon120 is a lot worse than the 49 lb Tarpon 100. I'm looking forward to picking up the Coosa, but I wont be getting the Coosa HD.

Nope, I just started looking at them myself.

I just did a sit on top kayak tour in Cancun last week and my back still hurts from it.

A guy at Bass Pro was touting them but I haven't sat in one yet.

I like the look of seating.
