Old plug Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I use one but do not like to. I only started last year. Skin gets thinner as you age and you will have trouble. But as real pretty as my dermatologist is I do not like her burning and scraping things off my arms and head. Just how many of you sun lovers are over 75.
motoman Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 In the spirit of staying off topic a bit. :-P - I can't stand sunscreen, hate sunburns and detest melanoma........so I wear ye ole buff and uv clothes. - It looks goofy; but works good and are very comfy.......I overheat easy.......but actually stay cooler in uv wear. If I'm ever outside as long as I fish; I wear the stuff too. - Checkout the Breathe Like A Fish brand; large mesh mouth/nose opening is MUCH nicer to breath thru. - http://www.breathelikeafish.com/product_p/blafgillzmask.htm - And the cabelas brand uv sleeves with thumb holes rock too! - http://www.cabelas.com/product/CABELAS-GUIDEWEAR-COOLING-UV-SUN-SLEEVE/1746825.uts - (They even have rubber grippers on the palm too!)
5bites Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Sleeves may not be a bad plan so you could wear a regular shirt and take them off for the drive home or whatever.
ness Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 They do have spray on sunscreen now, so you don't have the mess of the lotions. I've always got it in the car wherever I go. I haven't noticed a difference in protection John
fishinwrench Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 10 years from now they are apt to discover that the chemicals in sunscreen are harmful, so..... I just take my chances that my body doesn't require commercial products in order to survive on the planet I was born on. Sunburn, windburn, frostbite.....just minor things in life that happen annually. The body adjusts if you'll just let it I think.
bluebasser86 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I hate putting on sunblock and I wear contacts, 2 of my main reasons for wearing a buff. When it gets hot and I start sweating, last thing I want to do is get sunblock infused sweat getting into my eyes and messing up my vision for the rest of the day. Plus it's about impossible to get every nook and cranny of your face blocked, unless you just cover it. Being able to dip it in the lake to help cool off when it's hot is great too. I buzz my hair really short too and if you've never had a bad sunburn on top of your head then you just haven't lived! I promise there's nobody out there complaining when I cover my ugly mug up anyways! Ned is probably one of the most humble people I've ever had the pleasure of talking to, I'm positive he doesn't give a rip what Jay has to say about him. He'll just go back to knocking the fish around with his little rig while everyone else struggles

huntest Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I grew up working on a farm driving a tractor. I never wore a hat or sunglasses and rarely a shirt. Mickey Mantle once said, "if I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself." If I knew what I know now, I would have covered up. I visit my dermatologist every 6 months and we discuss my newest crop of "barnacles" and cut or freeze them and most of the time send a couple of samples to the lab. Forgive the glum nature of this post but I recommend covering up one way or another. ?

I haven't noticed a difference in protection I am very grateful for this stuff too. I hate rubbing that stuff on. Getting sprayed is no treat either but at least less gets on your hands.
