Members jackdizo Posted June 4, 2015 Members Posted June 4, 2015 Thanks! JPB. I have targeted carp at that lake on the fly quite a few times and come up empty handed. Was happy to finally get one, regardless of size. Hopefully I can post a bigger one for you guys in the near future. I have some other good spots near St Louis, but with all this rain we have been getting Im waiting out the right conditions. Carp are such a overlooked game fish, especially on the fly! One of the funner fish on a fly- rod to catch in my opinion, when it comes to freshwater. FishnDave 1
Fishingmill Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Congrats jackdizo. That's a nice carp. instagram.com/fishingmill twitter.com/Fishingmill vimeo.com/fishingmill
Geoff Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Some of my favorite carp flies are trout patterns tied slightly larger on heavier hooks. Those koi in there also like to eat mohair leeches, they dont fight particularly well though. FishnDave 1 "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
Members burton brown Posted July 22, 2015 Members Posted July 22, 2015 Sorry to revive an old thread but is anyone having any luck chasing carp with the water levels being so high? I've tried a few spots down in imperial where I'm at but only being a bank/wade fly fisher it's been tough to find anywhere decent to fish.
FishnDave Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 There's a lot of water in Forrest Park. How much of it is public/fishable? I see one area that rents paddleboats and kayaks.

I think it's the only one you really are supposed to fish in (or would want to if you want to catch something) FishnDave and snagged in outlet 3 2 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Gavin Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 There are some fish in the canals, but the boathouse lake and the Grand Basis are rather shallow & featureless. Jefferson Lake has fair bass fishing, and it gets stocked with allot of trout in the winter (Usually the first week of November). There are several hatchery ponds on the N Side of the Park. MDC uses them to introduce local grade school kids & scout troops to fishing. The ponds are full of little hybrid sunfish, and some BIG largemouth & channel cats that eat all the gut hooked/abused sunfish. Daryk Campbell Sr and FishnDave 2
