Fished again with Don Baldridge yesterday. Just a great gentleman, a good stick, and great to share a boat with. Needs to lose the braid though.

Fish around 13 have bailed out of shallow water, stacked just outside spawn coves and banks, out to 25' or so. Brush, points, little drops, are all full of bass. Temps started 58-59, and really never warmed up. Hard to warm with no sun, and cold rain and nights.

Don brought the clicker again. That thing scares the heebies and the jeebies out of me. Ended with 63, no good handle on keeps, but north of twenty for sure. Too busy catching them to count. Several doubles, lots of back to back fish. Just some very solid 16"-18" fish. Lost one better black, close to 4# with Beck watching. Don watched too, and has good video of it. I did not thrash on the deck or rip my jersey. That fish was a surprise, coming dead on the bottom in about 26'.

Will get pics up. Don may beat me to it with video. He has one up from our largemouth escapades last week.

Great report Dave!!! 63 under these conditions is awesome. I was going to invite you to come up and fish the James with me (to get you away from those tame fish), but we wouldn't catch 63 in three days. Tell the Bride that you're staying a extra week.

Awesome catching Dave! Would be interested to hear more about Don losing the braid? I have been experimenting with braid and a fluoro leader with the 1/8 oz Ned. Seems to be working good for me, less hassle with tangles in the wind, cast a mile and great for feeling those light bites.

Aside from having to actually tie the leaders, what's the knock on the braid?

I know its very time consuming to retie the dadgum leader, it even drives me nuts occasionally.

I know right? If he ever tried Nano, he's see it has the advantages or braid yet out throws mono. Starting to think a quality mono is better leader material than fluro.

Don't worry about losing a few fish when you are catching so many. It stands to reason that if you are catching lots of fish, you are bound to have a get off every now and again. It you are only catch a handful of fish and you lose a big one, that really sucks.

Agree Trophy. The advantages out weigh the dis-advantages. Doesn't take long to re-tie the leader once you get the hang of it. What I can't stand is the line twist and wind knots with mono or fluoro, as you know the little rig spins a lot and causes problems. For me I am going to keep experimenting with it.

Ham: You make a good point about using mono instead of fluoro as a leader. The stretch factor with mono is a good thing, since the braid doesn't have any.

Is that WinkieDoodle dude on here ?

I wanna talk to him about one of his YT vids.

Yes, but rarely on. Better to message him through YouTube.
