Isn't part of the thrill with bass fishing the chance you'll catch a toad like this ? And its understandable the different opinions it generates but no diehard deer hunter is going to let a 8 or 10 pointer walk away. Just saying'.......

I know exactly what I would do and have done. Release it. I am intitled to my opinion just as those that wish to keep them are intitled to theres. I am thrilled he caught a nice one. Not thrilled with the end results. Us catch and release guys will do our thing so you catch and kill guys can do your thing. Thats. what make the world go around.

You are entitled to your opinion, everyone is. But you guys come in and try to take away from a good catch every time to restate your opinion. Try to make somebody feel below you because you would have released it. It's not needed.

Maybe the keepers will do some of you releasers a favor and let the next big one go. Then you will have the opportunity to catch it one morning and stick it in your livewell to run around the lake all day with you. Then you can put it in a plastic bag with a bunch of other fish and stand in line to weigh it in and then hopefully somebody will make sure it gets back to the water alive.

I understand that you guys care about the resource. I love that. I really do. But I just don't see any point in getting on a fishing website and berating someone for keeping a fish. There is no point in it. If you truly cared that much for every single fish out there then you would quit fishing all together.

It's not solely about that single fish. It's about genetics and the potential of its offspring to also reach trophy sizes. That fish has proven to have genetics that are far above the average northern-strain LM bass. Taking it out of the lake to hang on a wall ensures that a genetically superior fish has been lost, along with the offspring it might have produced.

I'm not saying don't eat bass. But why not eat the smaller ones that may not have the potential to grow to trophy sizes? Studies have shown that a very small percentage of bass actually have that potential.

Besides, a fiberglass replica will long outlast an actual mount and will look good as new 20 years from now.

redundant discussions on this site are very redundant. I wish he would have caught it on a Ned rig.

Every time I try to help promote the Ned rig, I get pummeled for being infatuated with it.
