Aggressor1988long Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 It's not going anywhere as far as I am concerned. My preference would have been to take pictures and measurements and let her go. Then if I wanted get a replica made. If he wants to swim it in grease or mount it that's his right to. Conservation education still needs to be preached. If everbody was an eater or mounter there wouldn't be many left to catch. Bet that fish has been caught 20 times in its life. redundant discussions on this site are very redundant. I wish he would have caught it on a Ned rig.sorry don't see that happening, I think ned rig is for non experienced fisherman who dont know how to otherwise. Lol
Aggressor1988long Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Nitro ask these guys what there biggest fish is... most are jealous really dont care who says what, thats a bass to brag on. Great job hope he pulled hard. Have a good one.
slab slinger Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I don't like the taste of Bass myself and relaese all caught but this thread make me want to find someone that likes to eat them and start giving them away. Come on guys it's his fish and his choice to keep or release it. When i see bass guys fishing the crappie spawn and keeping big slab females to eat i don't throw a fit or act like he's breaking the law. Ask yourself how many walleye you've put the knife too caught while bass fishing. It's our legal right as licensed fishermen to keep or release any legal fish. Ease up guys it's not against the law.
Sac River Jim Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 We go thru this same scenario every year same situation just some different faces. i seen both sides of this many times before and understand both viewpoints but what i dont understand is why it goes on and on for so long. I spend my free time planning strategies for my next fishing trip, watching fishing vids, studying maps and reading fishing reports let alone keeping both my boat and tackle well maintained. Let it go for now i assure ya'll it will come back in the very near future. Fishing is enjoyable this crap ain't get back to what you enjoy and thats fishing and preparing to do so!!!! I am more interested with input about thoughts about maintaining or improving this fishery. My perspective about the present bass population is, that there are plenty of keepers in the 1.5-2.0 lb range but a void in the quality 2.0-4.0 range. The conservation Dept. surveys on yearly bass classes of fish have been very good for a number of years, but currently there seems to be a void in larger fish. This is pretty well substantiated with an endless list of fishing tournament results.

Lol Troll, troll, troll your boat. You're entitled to your own opinion, but savvy fishermen know better than believing that big baits always = big fish.

Mitch f Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I highly doubt that fish has been caught very many times if at all....fisherman are arrogant in that they think if they dont catch big fish than their arent any...... I think DenJac is more correct, these fish get caught and released often. In rivers the studies have shown a 40-50% catch rate of tagged bass. Granted a resevoir is a different story but these fish get re-caught more than we think. After all, why do people hang out at the closest cove to PB 2 after a tournament? Granted a resevoir is a different story but these fish get re-caught more than we think. After all, why do people hang out at the closest cove to PB 2 after a tournament? The difference between a river and stockton is places for fish to be. In a river most of the fish are concentrated in highly predictable areas, they are more opportunistic and the forage base is more varied and overall competition for food is more. A lake like stockton is huge, there will be a large percentage of fish at any given time shallow looking, deep, suspended, following shad, roaming flats. There is just much more water and food per fish. Also rivers produce a smaller percentage of larger fish as they grow much slower. Well...ya the reason people hang out in the cove after a tournament is cuz they know there will be a very high percentage of large fish in a small area. I am not saying that fish cant/arent recaught, I just think we as anglers are naive to think we catch all the big ones. Ask a diver who dives a lake! Aggressor1988long 1
