snagged in outlet 3 Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 My son bought a cheap spinning reel and it works great. Spins the line up into a mess. Can anyone recommend a decent one that's not $150? 6.5 foot medium heavy rod for Ned fishing. Pete
rps Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 I bought the Lews. I do not like spinning reels. Do you want it? BilletHead 1
Members Troutguy Posted May 30, 2015 Members Posted May 30, 2015 I only use spinning rods these days... two things that works perfect for me, I use the $50 Pflueger President reels and only use POWERPRO braid on them. No tangling or line problems ever with the braid.
Terrierman Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Lew's Speed Spin and Pflueger President are both good reels. I've also got an Okuma Trio that's right sized for that application. I actually bought it to use fishing for whites and hybrids. All three reels are smooth. The Okuma is a little heavier than the other two. The Okuma has the best drag of the three.

Members Slowtime Posted May 31, 2015 Members Posted May 31, 2015 So... Between the two, Lews (which model) and the President 6930, which one is most recommended? Used as an all-around creek fishing canoe/kayak reel.
dtrs5kprs Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 For the Ned....most of the Daiwas in the 3000 size are great. The Legalis runs about $60-$70 and will do what he needs it to do. The bigger spool will cut down on the twist, along with proper operation. Otherwise, a med heavy is quite a bit of rod for the Ned. Med light is more in the right range. motoman and Ham 2
snagged in outlet 3 Posted May 31, 2015 Author Posted May 31, 2015 It is a medium not MH. Thanks RPS!! I'd happily pay shipping. Let me know what you need from me. Pete This website is the best. Bass Yakker 1
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 I wouldn't buy a Lews spinning unless it is an expensive one. I've had 3 of them break and replaced and they are not smooth anymore. So I am Ready to buy something different now

I will UPS it to you and you can send me a check for the pittance it costs. It is a really good reel. It is my bias against spinning rigs that gets in the way.
