Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted June 10, 2015 Root Admin Posted June 10, 2015 Rickf, what it proves is you think nobody is entitled to an opinion. Like its been stated over and over that anybody has the right to keep bass for whatever purpose they want within the law. Some of us don't and are criticized for expressing our point of view. Doesn't anyone have the right to criticize an opinion? This has been a fairly good discussion... what I haven't seen is any facts or studies - only opinions... which is ok I guess. What I also haven't seen is anybody from other lakes/forums come over and criticize Table Rock guys of keeping fish on Table Rock. Terrierman 1
Members EddieRay Posted June 10, 2015 Members Posted June 10, 2015 One thing to think about when it comes to MDC (or any state fisheries agency) is that their limits on length size, etc., are a compromise of sorts. They have to try and meet the demands of anglers who want to keep fish, make sure there are numbers of sizeable bass for tourney anglers, etc., It's not about what's best for the fish, it's about making the fishing public happy. This is true and I was aware of it before I made my earlier post. Everything is a compromise to attempt to make sure a fishery meets the needs of all who use it. I don't see catch and release of every bass as being best for the bass population either, even though that is what I do, for the most part. Some fish have to be harvested, eaten as forage, etc in some manner, at some point in time for every fishery to maintain a balanced population. jtram 1 "The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance - it is the illusion of knowledge." Facts and studies....such as the facts and studies conducted by the conservation department and fisheries biologists who set things like length/creel limits? Which leads us back around in a circle to the fact that this whole discussion is moot in that everyones opinions arent worth squat other than to make people not want to post their reports (which is the whole point of this site anyway). Im sure that if you talked to a biologist you could get mountains of primary literature articles from reputable journals, as well as their own personal experience as to why the limits are what they are. Those who disagree are purely speculating without any real data. Who else is better qualified to set length and creel limits for the states fisheries (while keeping the best interest of a large number of sportsman in mind, not just a select few)? I sure hope that Rick posts more reports as I thoroughly enjoyed this one....that said, I wouldnt blame him if he didnt. I probably wouldnt if i got yelled at for keeping a mess of fish to eat.
Terrierman Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 It's the internet for crying out loud. Have fun with it however you like. No need to take things so serious.
