mjk86 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 You have to think there are more worms or worm-like critters down there. Either that or they are just hard wired to eat them. Ya thats the only way i can really rationalize it. Probably a little of both id guess. I know when the meremac floods ull see tons of crawlers right on the bank. You could fill up a bucket! Also....speaking of weights of these fish....I only ever measure length. My biggest spot was 19.25" ill try to post a pic. A few that are 18" or bigger. How much to those weigh? I always assumed an 18= about a 3lber for spots n smallmouth.
denjac Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Maybe we should start a save the worm program. Then he won't be able to catch anymore! Seriously his post would have been just fine if he hadn't implied the eating part. He's just trying to poke the bear and it worked. I say his future posts we let crickets chirp on it. james and Bumble Bee 2 Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Spots and brownies will fool you, because a lot of them will be thicker than largemouth up to about 19" or so, maybe 18". Some of that "I need largemouth to weigh" business is hooey, until you get past that 18" range. There are a lot of skinny largemouth. Good thread the other day, by the way. Obviously I disapprove of the fate of the fish, but the info was good.

It seems all the lm ive ever got outta table rock has been scrawny except my brother in law got a 22 incher that was fat. Those spots r such footballs!
DADAKOTA Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Wow. Nothing worse than fishermen turning on each other. So let me get this straight. The C&R guys can't stand the knifers eating bass. C&R is the only way to go to protect the resource. So the C&R team doesn't eat fish? If they do would they not be hypocrites? Do the C&R folks release all the crappie, walleye, bluegill, and catfish they catch? Or is it only the almighty bass? Before you get your panties in a wad, I am a tournament fisherman and practice C&R on 99% of the bass I catch. I think crappie, walleye, and gills eat better so those are the species I catch for the pan. With that said, I do not have a problem with someone catching Kentuckies to be released in grease. They pay the same fees, sales taxes, etc. that I do and as long as they are legally harvesting their fish within the limits established by MDC that is their choice. There are probably more released fish that die every year on Table Rock and feed no one than this fella catches and eats. We all enjoy fishing no need for a brawl. DADAKOTA Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 The Rock is a premier bass lake. Apparently those who keep bass for dinner are not hurting the population. Love to hear your responses to my other questions.

Released a crappie that was well over 16" last year, and scores of goggleye every year, along with hand size gills and the odd catfish. Fish taste like fish. This idea about licenses, etc...Just because it is legal does not mean it is a good idea. Like driving 70 on the freeway when it is snowing. Legal, yet destructive. Dangerous part is that folks get influenced by what they see, and could pick up the behavior. Especially young folks, people new to the sport, folks who started with no one to mentor them on stewardship. OldMillRoad, Codywskeeter1521 and denjac 3
denjac Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Anybody ever read mdc advisory on eating fish out of missouri streams and lakes? Yikes! Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Champ188 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 dtrs5kprs answered those other questions quite well. ^^^ When I eat fish, and that is very occasionally, it is walleye. They are stocked in Table Rock. Bass are not. Catch and release is a hot topic, so people know when they post photos/stories about killing fish that it's gonna start a poopstorm. Rickf particularly knew this when he started this thread because he did the very same thing 2 weeks ago. As denjac said, he's just poking the bear. If you catch-and-kill guys don't like where these threads go, quit starting them. Kinda asinine to stir up crap and then complain about the smell. denjac, Quillback and dtrs5kprs 3
