mjk86 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I have never had a gun stolen or used against me or have I ever needed to get the gun out. I live in St.Louis and sell insurance off of Riverview and Cornith.....took a picture of a building there they other day, right where 4 people were shot in a car last night. I have never seen the streets turn red with blood because I have a CnC and sometimes carry a gun. It's not the big deal you guys make it out to be. "right where 4 people were shot in a car last night" and "its not the big deal you guys make it out to be" Fair enough, its just people being murdered no big deal right? there are far worse atrocities happening in the world like keeping legally caught smallmouth out of a river. Where do you suppose those guns used in the shootings were obtained? Either bought legally or stolen from someone who bought it legally. Also...I bet they werent using a scoped 30-06, prolly a handgun. They serve no purpose.
mjk86 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 What would you propose as a solution? No handguns allowed would be a great start on less gun deaths, sandy hook was a horrible thing, but the exception rather than the rule. Every day deaths due to handguns are the rule...they serve no purpose in society and if they were non existent there would be far fewer shootings.
hoglaw Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Provide your documentation to support your statement. Let's see the numbers and how they are reached. Something about lies, darn lies, and statistics comes to mind. ? Surely you aren't arguing that we don't have waaaaaaay more gun deaths than we should? mjk86 1
oneshot Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 A nice short 12ga. pump would be my choice. That might suck for friendly fire victims in a crowded place but hey the prerogative is for ME to survive, right? I use to carry 12Ga. all the time. One time in town, girl was laughing at me because a Cop was headed my way then freaked because he just said HI! I'm wanting my wife to get her CCW because she needs to carry for work. Like she said the other night she felt like an outsider because she wasn't carrying. oneshot
MOPanfisher Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I am all for banning handguns to get rid of them, worked for drugs. We should also ban murder, rape and robbery while we are at it, sure would make things more safe. Daryk Campbell Sr, dtrs5kprs, jtram and 1 other 4
hoglaw Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 To follow up on this, I get it. I own multiple handguns and long guns, and have shot my whole life. It is my PERSONAL OPINION that civillians legally carrying pistols on a day to day basis creates far more harm than it prevents. For every one story that the NRA touts as a triumph of concealed carry in crime prevention, it is my PERSONAL OPINION that there are twenty stories of firearm casualties due to mishandling, irresponsibility, freak accidents, etc. But hey, if carrying a gun around makes you feel good, then that's your right until the law says otherwise. The government is not taking guns away. It isn't even trying. The comment about Sandy Hook was a great one. If that didn't result in legislation, then not much ever will. This isn't Nazi Germany and the government isn't coming to get us.
ColdWaterFshr Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I have tried to explain things in as clear a language as possible and you choose not to understand what is being said. You have not provided any facts, evidence, or logic throughout this thread and rely emotion, ridicule, and personal attacks. Oh I understand clearly what you are saying, and I understand the gist of the article. Your using the article as a some sort've justification or as an example of why ordinary law-abiding citizens should arm themselves in public --- that is exactly where common sense and logic and disregard for statistical facts have been parked, and in its place YOUR emotion, your wishing to be BATMAN have taken over. You think its a high probability that you will find yourself in a similar situation, and that is why you carry, right? To defend yourself and others. To be the hero. You've watched too much TV.
MOBass Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Im not sure where you live but something tells me its nowhere near st louis or any other large city...I believe 6 were shot last night in st louis. Tote that thing around in a place where you might actually need it and it would end up as a stolen murder weapon used on you. How many of those were concealed carry holders shot with their own weapon? How many were random acts? How many were known gang members or associates thereof? Please provide the number of concealed carry holders shot with their own weapon in St. Louis year to date and how this relates as a percentage to the number of concealed carry holders. Provide facts to persuade me that it is indeed more dangerous to carry than not. You make the assumption that crime has defined boundaries by your statement of carrying where you might actually need it. This is patently not true. Crime takes place from the inner city to the smallest Podunk town. While the likelihood may increase or decrease based upon a number of factors which includes location, crime does not magically stop at a line on a map.
MOBass Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 No handguns allowed would be a great start on less gun deaths, sandy hook was a horrible thing, but the exception rather than the rule. Every day deaths due to handguns are the rule...they serve no purpose in society and if they were non existent there would be far fewer shootings. Would there be less violence?
Terrierman Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 What would you propose as a solution? I don't think you really want to know. It would be what many would call draconian and resemble what Australia did.
