moguy1973 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Bassmaster#1 and I did end up hitting the Huzzah today. Parked a car at Scotia and put in at Huzzah Valley about 7:15am. Water was up and swift, but was far from un-floatable. Very nice green tinge to the pools and it's typical Huzzah clarity on the riffles. Didn't see another person until about 2 miles from Scotia and then it was only one canoe, about 5 kayakers, and two rafts. Fishing for me was pretty slow as I had a bad day of getting hung up in the numerous freshly downed trees and brush and I only ended up with 6 total but one was big fish of the day which was a 17.5" smallie with a big belly that probably would have went for 2.5lbs or so. I also caught a 16" largemouth which was really healthy and fat bellied. The rest were 12 inchers. I had a bad day of fish getting off also and I could have come close to 15 fish if I could have brought all in. Bassmaster#1 faired much better and caught 17, with one being a really fat 16" smallie. He did have a much bigger fish on after he freed a snag, but it came off before he could land it. Most of his were 10-14" fish. He also lost a lot of fish. We both had troubles keeping the fish hooked up on our tubes. All in all it was a really nice day for fishing although the heat and humidity was pretty unbearable at times. On a side note, it looked like a lot more people were floating the Courtois today as when we got to the junction of the two creeks an influx of kayaks was heading out of the Courtois. Scotia was an all out circus. Kids jumping off the upstream side of the low water bridge and floating under it (water level was about a foot or so under the bridge), probably 100 people or so just lounging in the water, and it surprised me (well really not) to see two jetboats that had made their way up the Huzzah from the Meramec. Sorry, but that creek is too small and pristine for jetboats to be on it, even in the higher water. I'm sure if the low water bridge wasn't there they would have headed up even farther. Here's the 17.5"er and some pictures of the creek. jtram Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Nice report, great fish . I'm ready to get some more miles in this crazy year!
Smalliebigs Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 We fished the Huzzah yesterday as well Jim. My sister called me late and came by and took me and my daughter to the creek. It's the first time I have used an outfitter in a very long time. We didn't get on the water until 2:15pm but the creek was in good shape. I caught 13 and my nephew Mason caught 1 all on a MegaBass Giant Dog-X with a custom paint job, the biggest was a hair under 18. It was a nice break from sitting in my house watching Disney Jr......I thought we did good for a kiddy/family float. Daryk Campbell Sr and MOsmallies 2

Members go4ducks2 Posted July 14, 2015 Members Posted July 14, 2015 We fished Huzzah also on Sunday....Harpers Slab to Huzzah resort, got on the river about 10am (long story) and there were a lot of floaters, water was moving pretty good, our biggest was 15" and caught about a dozen and lost about that many. Mitch I was impressed with a few blow ups that did not hook up, two fish bigger than the one I caught by inch or two for sure. The MB Giant is prone to shark week like hits and no hook up but, it's a cool show.
