Smalliebigs Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Rather than show where I caught these fish I am going to show what I have been catching them on. I have been just nailing fish on these Megabass Giant Dog-X in Hakusei Glitter Carp, GLX-AYU and a color I only know as G62....it kinda looks like Sexy Shad or something. These three have just knocked the crap out of them and I am just passing that info on so someone else can enjoy some nice ones. Hakusei GLX-AYU G62??? These baits walk very easy and cast a mile.....I have had some smaller fish hit the bait and not hook up but, it's still a fun show. Less dinks + very explosive strikes = joeD 1
Smallieguy87 Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Those look awesome! For some reason i can't really get the hang of them. I still catch some fish off of them and they are a lot of fun. I think the problem i have is rod position and length.
drew03cmc Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I have caught two bass on topwater in my life. WTD must be one of those techniques that take a bit to get used to. Andy
Smalliebigs Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 Yeah I guess so.....you need the proper amount of slack in your line while trying walk the dawg and it is twitch pause, twitch pause, twitch pause and KABLOOOOSH!!!! YOU JUST GOT SHARK WEEK BREECHED some are easier than others, rhythm and timing are key, some you really need to finesse walk them and others you can just go very aggressive at it.......either way the strikes are so friggin cool. I had a conversation with Al Agnew once and the more he told me about top water rationale, it really just opened my eyes up to it. I am only fishing for the biggest and most aggressive fish. I am passing on a lot of small fish by using 5 inch plus baits but, generally the fish I'm catching are always bigger than 15 inches for the most part. I am not getting as many hits as fishing jigs or soft plastics but, the entertainment value of the strikes I can induce and the size of the fish out weighs catching a ton of dinks in my opinion. Gavin Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Nice baits. You would be surprised at how effective a walking plug is at times. Any predatory fish will eat one so its worth taking the time to learn how to fish them. jtram 1
cnr Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Awesome. Any fish pics? I like the photos over the paddlers guide. Nice touch.
Ham Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I tend to over spend on baits BUT lots of walk the dog baits work really well. There really is no actual need to spend Megabass money on creek smallmouth, but I understand people doing so. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
joeD Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I'm hungry. I'd hit that topwater right now if you threw it next to my couch Mr Bigs. Also, you bring up a great point. How willing are you (us) to throw something all day in order to catch larger fish, though not necessarily in great numbers? (My friends and I do that on the White River in January, throwing jerkbaits all day, for days straight. It takes patience and a mulish stick to it tive ness). Yes, I will be buying some. (Cue dollars leaving wallet again for lures)
Smalliebigs Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 I know I spend too much on baits but, I would be willing Hahahaha I know I spend too much on baits, that's obvious.....buy I would willing to wager a milkshake I catch bigger river smallies than you catch lake smallies though
evilcatfish Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Definitely a nice looking bait. Was the middle one a little off tune from the others? Just notice the snap vs the rings. The color they call "elegy bone" looks pretty slick
