oneshot Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 No. It's what we call being a law abiding citizen, and a productive member of society. Don't be so disingenuous oneshot. That type of hyperbolic argument is nonsense and you know it. Like I say we have went to our store in the woods and streams as long as I remember and been plenty productive for our area. People come in telling us we are restricted just because they don't care about us be like us going to their store and changing what they can get. Some do follow the law but when the Government decides to keep us completely away from a part of our diet just because! Then they will be making us break Laws. oneshot
oneshot Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Fishing regulations. Who cares? Not Missouri. Well, maybe a few people. Otherwise, what a waste of time and effort. And words. And good intentions. And self righteousness. Some of us obey the law. Some of us don't. Just like gun laws or drug laws or wife beating laws or tattoo laws or anti gay laws or anything else. Missouri smallmouth fishing will only improve when there are no longer recalcitrant hillbillies living near Ozark streams.. Got a set that is all I can say. Think about it when you and your family go to float the streams and that Hillbilly is getting you all set up and agreeing to meet you on down stream, loads you up and takes you back to your Camp and room, even though you may be falling down drunk or high, they most time don't say a word. And if you should have the misfortune having an accident bring Jet Drive up river to find you, make sure you are safe and care for you. Yes doing this for minimum Wage through the Summer, then cutting Firewood for you all Winter bringing it to your Home, ricking it up, never complaining about you bitching them out how they are doing their Job. These people work their butt off for you, making maybe $15K a year. And you have the guts to come to their home and cut off their supply of food! Yes we been doing it since I can remember, before we happen to get Electric, Running Water and a Phone, living in conditions that you would run from tucking your tail all the way back to the city. oneshot
fishinwrench Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 The LEGAL consumption of fish/game for sustainability is no bargain. License, tackle, baits, ammo, fuel, ect. If a person is truly providing their family diet from the woods and streams then they are either unlawful or stupid. Because it costs more to legally harvest game than it costs to buy healthy food. joeD Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Hmmm. You do have a point. Maybe we should concentrate our efforts on the law breakers from the various fly fishing spots around Missouri: Hargroves. Feather Craft. River Run. Lilley's. Missouri Trout Hunter. A veritable hot bed of fish possessing scofflaws. No. Maybe its the suspect Bosnian population in South St. Louis. The various hard working immigrants from Southeast Asia? No. Drunk collegians from Columbia and St Louis and Springfield and Rolla. Naw. Save your working class hero bullshit. They exist all over the country. But certain ones who exist next to our smallmouth streams are unapologetic destroyers of a resource desired by many law abiding citizens. To believe otherwise is political correctness gone amuck. After all, I do believe it was disgruntled men from the Bahamas who flew into the World Trade Centers. (Radical Muslim? No way, that's racist). MOsmallies, Gavin and Smalliebigs 3
joeD Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I joined the Missouri Smallmouth Alliance in 1996. Loved it. Still kinda do. Almost 20 years later, nothing, really, has changed, Except MDC personnel. And their various "studies" Which conclude nothing. I don't care anymore. I'll go fishing someplace. Or I won't. I understand your point about the drunk floaters and all, but if a guy uses the outdoors as a grocery store, the laws are going to be broken,Period. You can get Swai fillets at Walmart, which are very good and cheaper than going to the river to catch worm infested fish. Yes we been doing it since I can remember, before we happen to get Electric, Running Water and a Phone, living in conditions that you would run from tucking your tail all the way back to the city. oneshot Exactly! Many rural economies depend on rural visitors. Sometimes it's direct transactions like shuttles, campgrounds and firewood, other times it's for indirect benefits like SNAP, WIC and unemployment benefits, heating/cooling benefits, school breakfast/lunch programs, ag benefits, rural fire department grants, infrastructure maintenance and improvements (roads, bridges, sewage treatment plants, etc). Urban residents don't owe rural residents a thing. Changing fishing regs isn't akin to coming into their house and cutting off their supply of food- because it was never their supply of food to begin with. Doesn't matter how close they live to the stream nor for how long- fish and wildlife are a resource owned by everyone. If most anglers want quality smallmouth fisheries, they shouldn't be held hostage by a group of locals claiming authority they don't have. No one MUST eat fish in order to survive, and perhaps if I had never been to the Ozarks and didn't know the #1 condiment for fish is Crisco, I'd be a little more sympathetic to the health and well-being argument. Actually got this house because of a very good deal I couldn't pass and my wife said we are getting too old to be dealing with stuff we were. The Guy that bought my Farm came from Springfield, actually thought I was poaching, said I killed all the Deer in Dallas County. As far as using the outdoors as a grocery store everything we have came from the woods and streams and is very legal. Don't take much for me and my wife. Do eat things most won't eat. Just today got back on the list for Road Kill Deer. Plus I hunt for Deer and Hogs. Will eat Carp and Groundhogs, was raised eating them. As far as plants my Father in Law thought I was going to kill his daughter and Grandkids with what I would cook. Worms in Smallies, hey find them in so much stuff. Cut out what I can and cook well. All in your Head. Other day went to the river 2 Redhorse, 2Goggle Eye and 2 Smallmouth. Two meals for us. I go to Truman catch limit of Channel Cats 5 Meals or Small Fish Fry.Either place is a Meat Gathering, go fishing and hunting. Knife and Ice Chest are with me. Actually found take Large Plastic Lunch Box with couple inches of Ice froze in the bottom does good for cleaned fish and Squirrels. Now going Deer or Hog hunting afterwards. Truth I don't like being told what I can't do like maybe burning my property off, flying my Rebel Flag or telling Homosexuals they are not normal and what the Word of God says about them. oneshot
fishinwrench Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Well.....homosexuals don't like being told what they can't do either. All we know about the word of God is what is written in the bible, and the ones that did the writing were way more twisted than ANY homosexual I've ever met. Ya know why sheep herders wore robes ? Because sheep can hear a zipper a mile away. drew03cmc, SpoonDog and Flysmallie 3
