Bill Babler Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Lot tougher than I thought it would be so far, but 17 pounds leading and Biffle with close to 15. Might be a bigger bag tomorrow weighed in. Mike M. weighed in 10.9 said it was his toughest day he has had up here. crazy4fishin 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Im going with Team Watson. He has a good track record here and knows the lake very well. Although it looks like a lot of local boys are struggling a little
merc1997 Bo Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 it is actually going as i thought the weights would be. in the last couple of weeks, bass have been on the move. more to do with the bait moving than anything else. however, those that figure out where they are moving and can keep up with them everyday can do well. there will be some deeper fish caught video fishing, but i feel that the win will come from 20 ft. or shallower on moving baits. that is just my feel on how the lake is fishing right now. bo
Bill Babler Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 One of our local guides here caught them pretty good on his trip yesterday with a spinnerbait out of cedars. Said he thought he and his single client had 17 or 18 pounds. Said they had a solid 5 and another over 4 pounds. He is very accurate with his weights, so I will say it is 99% so. Said they only had 6 total fish but all were the right kind. This is very contrary to what those going over the scales are saying, commenting they have caught lots and lots of short fish. These guys are all over the flat gravel and the roll-offs. either dragging finesse baits or drop shotting. Usually not the receipt for biggins. The pattern that I have been using is as I have said, not going to catch you a bunch of shorts or guide fish, but solid keepers. Only a couple of bites for the boat an hour, but really nice fish. It is almost impossible to fish this pattern in a derby. Your brain just will not let you slow down to that speed, you feel there are fish elsewhere that you can catch and catch faster. You can, but not what we have been catching fishing slow right now, and after these cooler temps, it might even be more of a pattern. I think Watson is fishing a very similar pattern. I know Mike has been covering a lot of water and really Power Fishing. With these cooler temps a guy might need to put that crank bait up and concentrate on the cedars or the transition banks a bit deeper. I'm still thinking it is going to take 25 plus to make the top 12 and to win you are going to have to be in the 40's. If you didn't have 12 pounds yesterday it is going to be a very tough hill to climb, just because of the shear number of guys you have to jump over. Good Luck out there. big c and abkeenan 2 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Hughesy Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Im going with Team Watson. He has a good track record here and knows the lake very well. Although it looks like a lot of local boys are struggling a little I painted up some baits for James last week, so I'm in his corner along with my bud Mike. Good luck to all of the local guys. Bill, we want to see you in one of these derby's. It would be awesome to have you in there so we can root for someone who shares so much info with us all. Thanks for keeping us updated! abkeenan and Ranger Z22 2
Longball22 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Do you think the winner will come from a certain area of the lake, or is the bite pretty equal across the lake? I fished from Spring Branch to the upper James last weekend, and had a tough time finding keepers as well, regardless of the technique I was using.
magicwormman Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I'm still rooting for Stacey ....................sitting in 16 place and hopefully will catch 5 good ones today. I know the bite is tough right now and I think he has the ability to SLOW down and getrdone. marcus 1
Fish24/7 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 wow, I just looked at the leader board. is that right? just 3 bags over 14lb . just hope the rest of the field figures out what they need to do to put some weight in the boat today (i can hear the excuses echoing right now, high pressure, bluebird sky, east wind, cold front, caught a bunch of keepers during practice .....)
Sprint21fter Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 It will be won shallow! Quality fish are following the bigger sized shad into pockets or creeks. If it would have slicked off today then the draggers would be in the ball game getting their 12lb limit. You have to burn your trolling motor all day to run into the right creek or pocket that has the bigger sized shad in it. When you do you will catch a better than average size fish. Fishing this style you are expecting to get 5-9 keeper bites all day. It isn't for the faint of heart.
Bill Babler Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Those draggers and droppers are not getting 12 pounds. They are getting 9 and 10 pounds. Post above has lots of truth in it Dewayne French 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
