gabe Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Anyone throwing the Whopper Plopper topwater? Sounds like James Watson and others were catching them on this.
abkeenan Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Check the BASS Open thread. Lots of talk about that bait over there.
Pepe Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I threw it for a while today and caught 2 legal LM & 1 short but stout K on it. You can throw it a mile. I bet they sell a bunch of them after Watson's win. Maybe it was the overcast but the bite was good today on jig, topwater, fluke and rock crawlers. We fished pockets & points from Point 21 to Ice box. Not many folks on the water and didn't see a single wake boat. It's a shame, but have to head back to the city tomorrow.
Longball22 Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I decided to go check out Sportsman's Factory Outlet's new location, and they had a bunch of them in stock. The guy I was talking to said they had sold over 70 today alone.
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Ive had one tied on since last spring. It is a great bait but its not magic. Amazing how people will jump on the wagon like that...... A-rig on year after a big Tournament, Underspins after the last classic. magicwormman 1

He would do better with an old beer can tied on than most folks with a 50 dollar lure. Old plug and Champ188 2
Quillback Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I picked one up this spring, caught some fish on it, but walk-the-dog type lures have caught just as many for me. Funny how word gets out so fast in the bass world these days, Tackle Warehouse is sold out of a lot of the colors.
huntest Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I had a chance to fish with Rick Clunn a couple of years ago and he was throwing the whopper flopper or a version of it. He could throw it so accurately around docks etc it looked like sniper target practice. It was unbelievable to watch.
Sprint21fter Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Watson is a very skilled angler. His dad taught him alot and a few of his friends from around here are the best sticks around. Robbie Dodson, Jeff Fletcher just to name a couple. He has put his time in and has the time to put in the hours. Alot of people get rubbed the wrong way on how he talks. He is loud to say the least but that is probably due to his military career. He is as passionate about fishing and competition as everyone on here. Champ188 1
Pepe Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 Walk the dog baits worked best for me, also. I'm sure Watson picked up a new sponsor by advertising what He caught fish with, LOL . Watson was a Drill Sargeant and loved it, according to his bio. Loud is understandable. MY DI is not a man I will ever forget. He would abuse me to no end if he ever saw the state of my tackle :)
